Age Limits On Performers Question
Hey guys. Someone asked me this here and I did not know the answer. A band here has a gig soon (at The Hop House, a bar here in Pittsburgh), but one of their bandmates is 19. Are their age limits as to the age of bands/performers in bars? I would imagine under 18 wouldn't be allowed, however what about the 18-21 range. Would people of that age be able to perform in bars (with or without supervision)???

I believe that you can legally perform in a bar when you turn 18. I remember I had wanted to start gigging when I was 16, but my parents called the State Police and were told that I would have to be 18. I started gigging at 18 and didn't recieve any hassle about it. I have heard of a minority of club owners still taking issue with someone being between 18 and 21.

By law, you have to be 18 to work in a place that serves alcohol. A band is considered a sub-contracted employee for that night, so the law stands for all members of the band...must be at least 18!

We have Nitekast all the time! We don't mind that the band has anyone over 18 but under 21. We have never had a band who violated liquor laws. We do not allow any guest who is under 21 unless special permission is granted in advance.
I will admit that we did not know about this law quite right our first year and did allow a band who had minors play at our place. They were a very good band though and I hope that do well as they become old enough to play out and about.
