What band gear did you sell that you wish you still had?
I wish that I still had my white Ludwig 7-piece drumset that I bought in 1980. That is, thanks to my loving Mom who I could never thank enough for all the good things that she has done for me. I was only 15 years old. Anyway, it was one with four rack toms with no resonate heads. Two were mounted on a stand on each side of the bass drum. The bass drum obviously didn't have a tom mount. Back then, my ride cymbal was on a boom stand above the two lower-pitched toms. I only had one crash cymbal which was on a boom stand above the two higher-pitched toms. I still don't truly understand how I hit that crash after coming off a full tom roll. Must have been the energy of my youth. Today, I would have the ride cymbal on a straight stand above the floor tom. Then, a crash cymbal above both sets of toms. Eventually, when I got my high school graduation party money, I went and bought a set of Remo roto-toms to put over my hi-hat & a 19" Zildjian Rock crash cymbal to put above my floor tom. I was too used to the ride cymbal being where it was I guess. So in the whirlwind of a youth of changing tides, I ended up selling this kit including Humes & Berg cases to an old fello in I think Nanty Glo. He was buying it for his grandson. I'll never forget taking it there & setting it up for them & he asked me to play it for him. I did & he gave my a nice compliment. I'll probably never know what happened with that situation but I would buy that drumset back in a heartbeat. I want to add as a footnote if any young drummers read this, don't ever just throw all of your stands & hardware in a case allowing them to touch & rub against each other. This will wear away the chrome plating on them & they will begin to fall apart & look like shit. Regretably, I did that back then because I didn't know any better. Today, I use towels, sheets, & anything else I can come up with to seperate my gear. Now, GO!!!!
I've drank enough beer to float a battleship! Go ahead and Rock & Roll all night if you can but don't party every day!
