Post by Hawk »

A tribute of our better half and our parents. The ones who put up with musicians. We take them for granted sometimes. Practice every week, out gigging. BUYING NEW TOYS !

If I need to learn a song I just go to the drum room and make all the noise I want. Weekly band practices... I'm nearly always looking at what I want next (new kick pedal at about $400 :D ) Yet no complaints.

These people just seem to accept the idiosyncrasies of musicians. (Or is that idiosyncrazy  )

Bless all of those who have learned to live with a musician !

I hope you have family support for your addiction to playing ! If you don't, we'll arrange a group Rockpage hug...

My wife doesn't mind us practicing here every week.
She also doesn't mind when the other guitarist and
myself get shit bag drunk and play acoustic guitars
until 4am. She doesn't even care that she can some
times hear me screaming the whole way in the house
which is about 50 feet away from the garage where
we practice. She doesn't mind making dinner for the
4 of us once in a while either. She put up with my bullshit
while I was mastering our demos. Hell just the other
day she made up an ice bag for my drummer and
helped the guitarist clean green pus out of his infected
ear.
Hell she even puts up with the excessive amount of
"propaganda"(as she calls it) that comes out of my
mouth either in the form of lyrics or just ranting
about the state of things in the world.
I guess I have it pretty good.

It always is a plus when you marry a fellow musician. It's nice to bounce ideas off each other and be able to critique performance and songs and know you're getting a professional, albeit, bias opinion.

I will add it can be tougher to play together at times. Our differences of opinion made many rehearsals a bit uncomfortable for the other band members. Maybe that's why we don't play together any more.....

My wife has been really supportive over the years, even when she had all of her health issues. She has always been there for me thru all the bands I've been in and all the drama. She also bought a kit for me back in 2004. Words can't describe how much I appreciate her. Thanks Vicky

My wife is awesome. I feel very lucky to be in two bands with a baby in the house.

Ya my wife is also very supportive. Also has helped out buying things for me If i needed them. Makes all the flyers for the band and then some. As musicians we thank god everyday when we find people who support us like this. Cause we all know some of the things that come along with being a musician.

Is it really necessary to get married for someone to be with a musician? There's a sure fire way to ruin things, regardless of whether you're up til 2 a.m. beating on drums ... r:>)

My significant other is very supportive of my playing...well, except when I ask her to help carry my cabinet during load-in and load-out. ;) She's a pretty independent woman and wouldn't stand for someone telling her what she can and can't do, and I'm a pretty independent guy and would, like-wise, not stand for someone telling me what I can and cannot do. She would never ask me to choose between her and music (or my day gig career), and that just makes me love her more. Unfortunately, some people aren't like that, and I've seen good players walk away from their instruments just to satisfy their significant others.

Yeah Paul, ive seen that over the years and its a shame. Ive heard spouses who have beat down there musician hubbys and made them quit playing. Demoralizing them to the point of no confidence.

This year will be our 10 year marriage anniversary for my wife and i, but we have been together for 20. Shes never known me to be not in a band or playing out. Always supported me, through the bad and good and i love her more than the day i met her. A band is like a marriage and it takes a special wife to share that and understand.

Although she would rather go see Slacker Theory or Bad daze than me playing because of her taste in music.... :P

Since I started playing out, I've gotten the ultimatum. I've even stepped away from playing due to it. Never again. Fuck that noise. Asking me not to play would be like asking me to pluck one of my eyes out or telling me I couldn't eat chocolate anymore. Yeah right. It's part of me and who I am - who I've always been. Don't have that problem these days, tho. I get total and unconditional support and understanding from my significant other. Kevin ... well, you know what I think about the topic. You not playing is gay. r:>)

Among other things, one of the main reasons I left my ex was...she didn't support my love for music and being in a band. My current wife (I'm accepting applications) is VERY supportive...as long as I don't fuck any hog's. Cute chicks are A.O.K. though...

I'm the contrary. Most of the women in my past/present life( which isn't much at all) have not given 2 shits about my playing....and got pissed when I wouldn't stop.

My entire family hates/doesn't understand the music I play!

fuck em!

My wife is very understanding, as it takes away chances for us to do stuff together on a saturday nite (unless it's seeing a Bad Daze show when I happen to be off and they're close by).
She comes to some shows, depending on the level of smoke in the place.
She helps with loading/unloading, granted it's something she can carry.
She's the first person to help me tear down when we're done ( I can't imagine she's in a hurry to get home LMAO).
She doesn't buy me gear...she tried that once. Saw I guitar I thought I really loved, and a year later it got sold. Ooops. So THAT never happens anymore...she knows I'm particular, anyway.
She puts up with drunk chicks shmoozing on me. Wasn't cool about it at first, but realizes it's part of the game and as long as I know where to come home to eat, it's all good.
She's NEVER asked me to decide between her and my passion. She knows better...I was in love with music before her...LMAO.

Maybe we oughta organize a show for "The Women's Auxillary"...LOL.
