Best sounding room you've ever been to
Has to be house sound, permanent installation.
Locally for me: 30 Something
Regionally: House of Blues, Cleveland. The system had that allusive "authority" sound (clear but powerful), without being loud.
Nationally: Probably 'Rocks Lounge' at the Red Rock Casino Hotel in Vegas.

Depends who's running, IMO. The room itself, especially early on, was
basically a steel building with a concrete floor...and those are always joys.
They did some work to control things better so there's been improvement...

I have to tip my hat to Zilly and the system at 30 Something. Honestly, I don't like how my rig sounds like it that room. The mids always seem squishy to me. However, I just plug in and let Zilly do his thing.
The system at Mojo's pounds as well. It is a tinny room, as Dave said, but with the right person behind the board, it sounds like thunder.
As far as rooms without installed systems, I am always beyond pleased with how my rig sounds at Pelly's. It also helps having Greg lay down a kick ass mix. I know that the bass always has excellent note definition when he runs...of course, I hate that thought when I hit a sloppy note.

The best sounding room I've ever been to was the Philadelphia Academy of Music where I heard the Philadelphia Orchestra. I was in peanut heaven but the balance and quality of sound was incredible. Oh yeah, no mics, no nothing. Just over a hundred of the worlds' best playing Mahler and Ravel in a room built for one purpose: music.
Rick, I saw Ray Charles at the new symphony hall in Dallas, TX, built for the same purposes. The sound was out of this world. BTW, his last song was "America the Beautiful", and that was on the evening of 9/10/2001. The next day was of course the craziest day in America, and we were stuck there for a week, listening and watching the TV play "America the Beautiful" by Ray Charles.rickw wrote:The best sounding room I've ever been to was the Philadelphia Academy of Music where I heard the Philadelphia Orchestra. No Dave, was never in house sound at Wildwood, however it is one of my favorite sounding rooms as well. Good room and nice big stage.VENTGtr wrote:Ooh, good question.

and...I believe it was permanent house sound (Calv?)...used to really
like the sound at the old Wildwood, in Grampian, back many a year ago.

It would have to be The Copper Mine in Petersburg, Va. Great metal venue . Huge stage, awesome lights.
