This is right down the road from my work, and I saw 6 police cars race by and then saw the ambulance.
When I left work (which was minutes after it happened, there were about 8-10 cop cars there, but no cops were present.
I'm assuming that they were all in the woods chasing that guy.?

Thats some sad shit when you have to kill at random like that to get some money.

I was teaching class when I discovered the story on TV-10's website about an hour after it happened. I asked my students if any of them had to drive through the 58th Street area, and told them what was going on.

In a twist of irony, TV-10's website has a poll question asking people if they're concerned about safety in the area following the shootings this past week in Binghamton and Pittsburgh. Now it's happened here again.

This is some fucked up shit.

On he other hand this kind of stuff has always happened. Sometimes we are sheltered from it. I would say that it cannot stop people from reaching out otherwise the animals have won.

It cannot stop us from caring for each other because if we do then we are each to blame. The minute that we stop caring then we are truly lost.

There will be a small group gathering today after school comprised of young people from the High school to talk and voice there concerns and there thoughts.

The message will be that in times of tragedy the human spirit perseveres, that through this obvious injustice we still have to work to make things better, that life is not always fair and sometimes it sucks but we cannot give up.

I feel so deeply for the families of these young people. The loss of a child in such a senseless fashion must be extremely hard to deal with.

I am really starting to feel this way about all types of dirt bags and it makes me angry at myself. Live and let live? Every day, fucking people out there make decisions that impact others and their right to happiness. That doesn't necessarily mean that it has to result in a murder, but the whole idea of interfering in someone else's attempts to lead their own life is selfish and I'm getting to the point where I'm just going to start saying what I think to these types of fuckers (I'm gonna start saying what I think? I know, an ironic statement).

This did not hit me close to home. It hit home, period. This was my nephew. Needless to say that we and the immediate family appreciate the outreach and support of the community. Mom and Dad are trying to stay strong but are understandably a mess. Parents shouldn't have to bury their children. Especially that young.

Cynical - I've been cynical for many years. I am not originally from here. I grew up in a large city that was much less safe, to say the least. I've had lots of practice at developing my cynicism. Safety is a false perception. No one is immune from harm. Acts like this remind us how vulnerable we can be.

This kid had nothing but a bright future on his plate. He made the right choices even when wrong surrounded him. To have some punkass lowlife walk in and wreck a family's world over nothing is pointless and a tragedy. This loser is a total waste of skin. Imagine what went through my head when the news showed the interview room where he was being held last night and the little walk he would soon make to the Judge's office for arraignment. As much as it made sense to me to be there to "greet him", to act on it would have made me no better than this loser. In some instances worse. Death is too easy for losers like him. I'd rather he be forced to spend an inordinate amount of his "life" sharing a cell with Bubba, serving as his live-in bitch. Before that, I would like a chance to be in a locked room w/him and be holding the only key. But his fate is not up to me.

I am obviously sad and hurt over this ordeal. Worse, I am so angry to the point that it is above and beyond my hurt and sorrow. I have to shelve that though. Lots to do - family coming in to stay from all over. I need to try and be supportive of his Mom and Dad. I can be a bit more selfish about my emotions after.

Scott Garlick, the young man who was shot and killed was a good friend of my son's. My son asked Scott to come along to our visit to Cedar Point about 5 years ago, and the picture of my son and Scott while they were riding the "Raptor" sits on a shelf in our living room.

I have teens who work in the restaurant industry ( not that it's exclusive to that ) but this hits home brother , to think that each time they leave could be the last time i see them is SICKENING to me, and although of course we all know that anything can happen anytime but the idea of it being the decision of some ASS HOLE who needs $$ for Heroin is too much to accept. NO ONE has the right to take the life of another ! I feel for the families more that my words can express.

This type of situation is impacting me more closely now since I teach students in the same general age vicinity as Scott Garlick. This killing and the recent murder of Maggie Davis have both impacted me even though I did not know either person. It was just the notion that this could have been any of the students I teach in my class; young people with hopes, dreams and potential, who will never get to fulfill that potential due to some lowlife's mental instability.

As tornandfrayed said, this stuff can always happen, and our community is not immune to it. Life goes on, and we cannot hide behind locked doors, otherwise the criminals win.

My sincerest condolences to everyone who knew the victims, my thoughts are with you.

Our condolences to the family of Scott. It really hit me when Tim Garlick called me early this morning to inform me that it was his nephew that was shot. Needless to say I was shocked. I did not know Scott personally but I have meet his father and for something like this to happen to such a nice family is a tragedy to say the least. Also condolences to the other families who lost a loved one in this needless act of cowardice. It all brings to light the fact that alot of us on here have loved ones that work in places that seem safe. But in reality they are not. I hope the dirtbag shooter fries in hell.

T@rgetdrone ...my sincerest sympathy to you and your family. Your words are so very true. I grew up in that neighborhood. On Maryland Ave to be exact. Though myself or my family no longer lives there its very uncomforting to know that events like this can happen anywhere. I did not know your nephew but those that did have nothing but the kindest words to say about him. If nothing else I hope you can take solice in knowing that he was a great young man. I am sure that this person will get what he deserves in prison. Once again my deepest sympathy to you and your family.
