Does anyone know of any bars in the area (Huntingdon, Blair, Centre Counties...) that have an open mic night that would be a suitable place to do stand-up?
Thanks.
OPEN MIC COMEDY
Hi that sounds like fun Lisa. Do you have any dates for upcoming shows? I would love to catch a midweek one. thanks DebLisa wrote:We have comedy shows, but not open mic. But the group of comedians we get in find it interesting when someone in the local area has an interest in comedy and will give them a shot on stage for about 15 minutes. We had one guy that did it that way and really did a decent job.
You might check at Pellegrine's. They don't have an open mic night, but do occasionally bring in a comedy troupe, Issues Entertainment, with some comedians who do stand up. I believe these guys are local/regional, and may have opportunities for auditions, or might even know of venues and situations where local comedians can get started. Pelly's might have contact information for Issues Entertainment; I wasn't able to locate any contact info about them on the web.
Our next show is Sat. May 2nd. We have three comedians from Pittsburgh coming up.
We go through Bust-A-Gut productions founded by the Late Sean Currey. Sean was a great man with a lot of talent when he passed away at a young age due to an asthma attack. His friends have kept the group going in his memory. They always bring me some great fresh talent from the Pittsburgh area.
We are actually thinking of reducing the price of the tickets DRASTICALLY in hopes that we can pack the place in with standing room only. Not only do you get great comedians, but we will have some form of live music after the show as well. (Still waiting for confirmation of the musical act).
I remember our first attempt at comedy. We booked ONE female comedian. Sold about 80 tickets. And she was a freaking no show, no call, nothing. I was vivid. Sean contacted me and assured me that most comedians are not so unprofessional. And we've been doing comedy with his group ever since.
