question about taking your motorcycle license..

Post by EyesOfAnguishbassist »

Ok so I don't have a permit or license. I've driven motorcycles that way for the last 2 years and never got pulled over but I really wanna get my license just so I don't have to worry about it anymore (and for the fact its stupid for me to drive without a license lol). Eventually my luck will run out. Someone at work told me today that up at the Mill Creek Vo Tech they have motorcycle license safety course where you go 3 times or so for a couple hours then they give you your license automatically.

What I was wondering was how would I figure out when these are and sign up? And I heard you don't even need your permit for this, is that true? And I was also wondering if they were on the weekend or during the week or could you choose. I really hope they aren't weekends because my weekends are always chalked full of shows and we usually play a good distance away so I don't really have much time if any on weekends. Weekdays in the evening would be perfect. Thanks for any useful info!

My wife did that a few years ago in Mill Creek. The course was 5 days, Mon -Fri, and was usually like 3:00 pm til 6:00 on 3 of the days and 3:00 til 9:00 on the other 2. She had NO riding experience whatsoever other than yelling at me to slow down from the back of mine. If you want to do it, sign up ASAP, as they fill up quick. I think now you have to take the questions part of the test to get your permit, but when you graduate the course you will have your license. (When Jeane did it, the questions were part of the course.) They "road" test you there so you don't have to take it at PennDot. It also can lower your motorcycle insurance rate.

Do what I did, go to the DMV. You take a written test, then you take a quick and easy riding test and you get your license. You gotta get a permit first, which will cost $10, no test needed.

I got my license the ole fasion way but then I took the experienced course wich was actually pretty cool, they put you through the paces as far as cornering and breaking.

Its isn't too hard to just take the test if you know someone who's taken it in your area and find out what you need to do. In Johnstown its like 3 consecutive figure 8's in about a 15 ft box. Then go through some cones get your speed up and break hard to land your tire in a small box painted on the pavement. I did screw up the first time cause I got all nerved up but if I would have know what it was I would have been fine.
If you do just take the test I recommend the experienced rider course, it was fun and made you think about things that can come up.

A couple years ago they changed it and you have to take the written test to get your permit now. Then just the road course to get you license.

No Helmets
No Liscense
Thats the only way to ride bro!
Save your money for beer and weed, fuck the cost of the permit and the wasted time in the classroom.
You could be catching a nice buzz and scoring some chicks while the rest of the losers are in class learning how to yield properly in traffic.

Do what you do man!
Let's jamm, and keep it rockin' 8)

Just an FYI - you don't automatically get your license for taking the MSC. You have to successfully pass a final obstical riding test at the end f the class. Also, check with your insurance company for a discount. Some offer 10-20% off your MC insurance for taking/completing the class. Good luck!

i just got my permit last summer...got my license in September. I took a written permit test (there's a test booklet you can get online or at the dmv). Cost me $10. Then I took the free safety course. Passed the class and they stamped my permit (ie gave me my license). From what I hear, it's a lot easier to take the course. There were 2 classes in the classroom and 2 classes where we were on the bikes on a course, then at the end of the 2nd bike class---an obstacle course.

easy as pie!

I rode the course at Altoona's Driver Center a few years ago(I was tired of getting permits every year)anyways,it's pretty easy if you have any idea on how to ride. It took about 10 minutes to do the riding part of the test and the examiner I had was real cool. If you have a big bike you may wanna borrow a smaller one if you can,it'll make the figure 8's alot easier. Good Luck!! :D :D
