sick
This is a subject that drives me crazy. I can't stand when people use terms like "stomach flu" and think that just because they got sick in the stomach, they got the flu, or influenza. Influenza starts in your lungs and presents differently than how people perceive. There are other viruses that go around that cause the GI distress that most people commonly mistake as influenza. There is no such thing as stomach flu.
As far as the flu shot goes...no thanks. My sister got the flu shot a few years back and ended up in ICU for 2 weeks and even had to go to a rehab hospital after that. She was 29 at the time and nearly died, all because she got a bad flu shot. She ended up with Gillian-Barre Syndrome which is scary stuff.
Basically, if it's something most places are willing to inject you with for free, I am avoiding it.

I'm with ya there dude! People are ignorant as Hell. I was telling my mother and a friend of hers who she transports sometimes about the flu I'm dealing with, and how it's finally clearing up, all but the nagging cough. She's then like "Oh, I got the stomach flu not long ago...", and I interjected the aforementioned comment. I don't think she was very happy, but then I don't care anyway. If you don't want to be proven stupid, keep your mouth shut!rreihart wrote:This is a subject that drives me crazy. Stomach flu... All that ever "is" is a 24hr bug, upset stomach, something along those lines. Nothing medically proven. What's wrong with people nowadays...

several of us died of tuberculosis." - J. Handy
...Or how nasty your average food plant is. I'll NEVER eat a Mallo Cup again.
I remember reading that what most people called the stomach flu this season was likely norovirus. ZappasX would probably know more about that stuff, though. All I know is, I got that, too. I had stuff flying out of both ends so hard, I was afraid I was going to start spinning like a pinwheel.

Its a misnomer because it has nothing to do with influenza, but "stomach flu" or "intestinal flu" is an accepted name for a condition known as Viral Gastroenteritis:

People often use the term incorrectly for just about any bellyache.
