Battle for "Music as a Weapon"

Post by JayBird »

SCAM!!! Bands be very careful. I submitted SOLEGION into the mix of bands to consider for the battle. I received a reply back asking SOLEGION to participate in the battle. They were offered a battle slot in Buffalo, NY for the chance to open at the Erie, PA MAAW tour.

Here's the bullshit part. Bands MUST sign and return a contract along with $500 to pay for tickets in advance. Then the band would receive 50 tickets and can either sell them at $10 and keep the money or do nothing with the tickets. No wonder there are still a lot of slots open on all of these battles. The venues are still looking for bands and the MAAW tour is only about a month away. Some of these battles haven't even started cause the venues are still trying to fill these band slots. Just another scam using bands to fatten someone else's pocket! The battle is popular vote, no judging. $500 to play out of state where a shitty local band with lots of friends will win...I don't think so!

Scams like this make me happy I haven't been booking shows or actively seeking shows. I can't believe there are even bands signed up on the shows to begin with.

Jason, I really mean no disrespect with this post, but you've been around the block enough times. Ninety-nine times out of one-hundred, these BOTB contests are just bullshit schemes to make money for some promoter and screw hungry and naive bands. Music as a Weapon is obviously a pretty big tour and such would seem legit, but even Sharon Osborne made a bunch of hungry bands crawl through feces on national television to play the second stage at Ozzfest.

Yeah, I know that BOTB typically mean nothing and they are scams, but to make bands PREPAY for their 50 tickets...come on. My email back to the promoter wasn't the nicest! Selling tickets is the norm and that isn't a problem. I was expecting some sort of ticket selling. Going about the contest this way with the PREPAY thing...doesn't make MAAW look good in my opinion.

I have to agree with you here Jason. I could understand maybe selling 20 tickets, considering Solegion is from PA and the BOTB is in NY, but to pre pay for 50 tickets is just Rediculous. I was talking about this with my band as well. This was before this post tho. Thanks for filling me in on the bullshit info of this BOTB. Best of luck to Solegion if they are still going to do it. Oh and if you could, let me know if you have any more slots for Too Loud Fest. Take is easy man!

I am legitimately bummed that I will probably miss Too Loud Fest this year. I may have to make the drive just to continue the tradition. Definitely, my favorite show every year.

Just posting to say "Music As A Weapon" has got to be the gayest tour name I've ever heard.

Weapon Against what? good music? The only decent band on there is Killswitch. And they're pretty suspect if they keep doing shit like this.

Well, they say loud music is torture, so I guess it could be called a "weapon."

A thought: The "Music as a Weapon" tour being as "large" as it is should have no problem selling tickets as is. Why would they even need to make bands pre-pay for tickets to a battle to play at their local stop probably at 11 am when nobody will be awake anyway?

Freebird - my point exactly! This PREPAY thing is only giving this battle a bad name. However, I'm not sure if this is MAAW tour policy or venue policy or promoter policy. Either way, it's not the best way to go about handling the battle.

I bet they're stoked! Best band in the lineup.
