I had something for almost a month. It started as a BAD head cold, traveled into my chest, then started heading back to my head. My right ear was plugged and I had an ear ache from hell. After two weeks of that it was time for some meds. I never go to the doctor because I like for my immune system to take control...it just wasn't this time. Doc thought that I could have had bronchitis. So I took the seven day zpack...now we're three weeks into this thing and it finally broke! Had one day of feeling "ok" when another bug bit me in the ass. I woke up around 3 am with fluids exiting from all ends...ahhh! So, that lasted for about a day and a half. Then the super sore back, stomache, legs, arms, sore everything hit me for about a half a day. WOW...it wasn't a fun February beginning of March!

I heard that people who got the more common flu shot (can't think of the name) were still getting the flu this year. Great...the flu has built up an immunity to the medicine used to combat it.

We had an ENDLESS cycle of flu in my home. First, the kid got it from one of her little friend's. Then of course she past it on to our 2 month old, that was a nightmare. When my wife got it, I knew I was in trouble. I'm one of those type of guy's who won't let a stuffed up head thing slow me down too much. Boy was I WRONG!! Whatever the hell this "Bug" was kicked my ass. I was trying to help with the kid's and help my wife who was trying to help me in a puke, diahrea fest that seemed like it would never end....Then when it started to clear up, BAM!!! We got it again...It's finally gone but I'm not the guy who "never get's sick" anymore.
Think I'm changing my attitude toward the flu shot too!!

The flu shot is only a short term "vaccine" against the 3 strains of virus that they expect to be predominant that flu season.

If you get a different strain...watch out.

I prefer the Andromeda Strain.

I never get a flu shot and I got a cold (not the flu) this year and had it for a few weeks.

Just about everybody I know who did get a flu shot this year got sick 2 or 3 times with the both the flu and colds. Some people I know get a flu shot every year and catch the flu every year.

I got the flu shot last fall, and thus far have only had a brief sinus cold in late January.

I usually do get the flu shot every year (for most of the last ten years), and so far I haven't gotten the flu in years when I got the shot. In two years when I didn't get the shot, one year I got hit badly by the flu, and the other year I didn't.

And in contrast.....

I NEVER get the flu shot.....and I NEVER get the flu. Just the occasional cold. Even that I don't even get every year.
I also don't take any vitamins, I just eat healthy (most of the time).

I'm one of the many that's been miserable this year. I usually get sick with the flu every so often (3-5yrs), and have been long overdue. I catch colds from time to time throughout the year, but the flu only bites me on the ass every so often. This happened to be the year for it, I suppose

I went down to Baltimore for a night 1½weeks ago. Someone down there had the flu and decided to share. So, I did what most people in my situation would do when I realized I was sick... I took my time to rest, lots of water, lots of soup, vitamin C, nothing heavy to eat or drink until it started clearing away

It's weird. I didn't feel it the first day after coming home. I went to work fine the day after going down to Baltimore. The following day though, I woke up and felt like I was hit by a truck! I still went in, figuring "Well, I'll be alright". By the end of the night, I hit a coughing spell with such a punch (in combination with everything else) that I went from standing to sitting in no time!

Oh... But I remembered something my mother told me about "sharing," and now, half of my coworkers are enjoying the same misery as I am! Needless to say, I'm not their favorite right now, but it's still rather funny!

I didn't have the flu this year but back at the end of October I did get pneumonia. I left it go for almost a month and was wondering why I wasnt getting better because I thought it was just the flu and if I kept taking medicine it would just go away. It was so hard for me to get up and go to work all day, I was so miserable. Finally the one weekend we played a show in Marion Center and I was so sick I was throwing up before we played and I was so thirsty and dehydrated. I could barely do it. Then that night after I went to sleep I woke up and my fever was up to like 103.5 so I finally said screw it and went to the hospital. I shoulda went there a longgg time before I did becuase they gave me some meds and pumped 2 IV's in me and I felt much better only a few hours later and within 2 or 3 days I was back to normal. I don't ever wanna catch that shit again haha.

I had the shits real bad yesterday, but I'm okay now.
Well, except my 'roids are all flared up.

No flu shot. I'm gonna avoid that shit til I'm like 50-55 to try to keep my immune system stronger. I have no medical evidence to support that this will help, I just know it will.

I got the shot... and the worst beat-down by the flu in 5 years. I've actually been a little sicker, but this one held on soooo long. A week flat on my back, another week ambulatory but still not good enough to actually work. Luckily (I guess), we had no painting jobs scheduled, so there was no work to miss, my timing was perfect at least. Of course I got it on Friday of the first weekend off I had in literally years. No work, no band stuff, no errands to do for anyone... my mood lasted 4 hours before I was in my bathroom doing the pea-soup scene from The Exorcist. The Guinness people called. Apparently, I set some sort of distance record. ------>JMS

I get the flu shot, mostly because I have asthma and that is highly recommended, but last fall I got pertussis. Pertussis is also called the whooping cough. It is the disease that children get vaccines for, the DPT shot, with diphtheria and tetanus also included. There is now so much pertussis in adults now, they have now started adding the P to the DT vaccines. So if you step on a rusty nail for example and go to your doc for a tetanus shot, you are automatically getting another pertussis vaccine booster with the tetanus and diphtheria.

I wish I had been given the vaccine, I have been coughing for over 6 months now. That is the reason why I have not been out much to see live music over the last 6 months.

That sucks, Joe. I feel for you, I sometimes get a dry bronchitis that starts in mid-Feb and goes until mid-April. They think it's some sort of tree pollen, as certain trees pollinate when the maple sugar runs. Anyway, it makes me cough when I try to talk, which as anyone who knows me can attest, is a BIG problem for me. It's just beyond frustrating, and you get physically beaten from all the coughing... my ribs would ache.
I didn't even know pertussis was still a problem. I hear tuberculosis is coming back big-time, too. The junkies and illegals are smearing it around, I know there are cases in nearby counties.--->JMS

Thanks John. The docs could not figure out what I had. They tested for everything, including allergies. Finally as sort of a last chance idea, Dr. Davies said, lets try for pertussis. Well that's what it was. Now that we know what it is, still can't treat it. You have it catch ir very early on and treat it with 10 to 14 days of erythromyacin. It was too late by the time we found out. Just has to run its course of several months. I was coughing so hard I thought I busted ribs. I coughed to hard I dislocated my jaw for awhile. I am slowly getting better, but I am so tired and out of shape. Hopefully I will feel better when it gets warmer and get the Cannondale Mt. Bike out on the roads.

I'm pretty sure that this round is what killed my friend Joe Nemanich.
