WATCHMEN
I saw this movie yesterday based on all the hype and seems the hype machine got me... This was the biggest waste of 3 hours and $10 I may have ever taken part in. an hour in I was thinking ok soon there will be a point, an hour 45 in I'm still thinking the same thing, 2+ hours in .... waiting and then finally SWEET RELEASE , no not a point , but the END ... The point never came, I thought I was perhaps missing something but the 3 guys with me exited the theatre using words like "turd" "waste of time" & "what the hell?" I also seen Gran Torino this weekend and that was AWESOME !! so if you're going to spend movie money I recommend even the Jonas Bros. over WATCHMEN..
I'm glad I didn't have to fight in a war, I'm glad I didn't get killed or kill somebody, I hope my kids enjoy the same lack of manhood

Wow, that sucks. I never read the comics, but the premise seemed really cool. I was considering watching this movie...or at least watch it when it came out on video.
However, May's just around the corner, and that means the new Terminator movie, which looks kick ass from the previews I've seen! After the turd of T3, I'm interested in seeing what the new director brings to the saga.

yeah
The trailer for Terminator 4 played at the beginning of WATCHMEN , this does indeed look good, I will go to St. Coll to see it as I am fed up with the Carmike shit at Park Hills , the friggin roof was leaking yesterday during the movie, which by the way was better to watch than the actual movie.

They are saying that if you did not read the graphic novel, then you'll really be confused and probably won't like the movie. Critics are saying that the movie won't last in theaters past this month.
On a side note...Yes, Grand Torino was excellent...very racial, but excellent!

WOW!! 99% faithful? As an avid comic collector, I definately WILL NOT go see this movie. The comic sucked, so why would the movie be any better?MeYatch wrote:I liked Watchmen. I hadn't read the comic, but I did afterwards, and its like 99% faithful.
The plot is iffy, but from what I've read the book was never really about the plot, it was about the telling of the story, and superheroes as flawed personalities.
I saw Watchmen at a great theater in Harrisburg this weekend. As a fan of the original comic, I was extremely pleased with the outcome. The director made very few compromises in bringing Moore and Gibbons' vision to the screen. I've been a comics reader for 30 years, and Watchmen definitely stands next to The Dark Knight Returns as one of the most literate and high-quality works of graphic fiction.
I can understand where you might be a little lost if you hadn't read the book first, but I think that enough concessions were made to increase the film's overall accessibility. Several of the comic's more abstract sub-stories were left out. This film would have been a challenge for ANY director; most studios in the 90's described Watchmen as "unfilmable".
The point of the story was that sometimes being a hero means living a lie and that even good isn't pure, only less tainted than evil, which is not without good. Those who lived in absolutes (i.e. Rorschach and the Comedian) could not survive in the "real" world or make peace with it.
Mojorisin: Have you read the entire series? If you think that it "sucked," what would rate as an "awesome" comic?
Bob: I agree with you that the Carmike Park Hills (which everybody calls the "crappy" theater) sucks ass. I would rather drive to State College than see a film there. You should pay half price to compensate you for the dirty broken seats and sound bleeding between walls, not to mention the three hours of previews and ads they make you watch.
I wholeheartedly disagree with those of you who hated the film. It was a perfect testament to the comic itself.

Unfilmable? No. Unwatchable? Yes.
My opinion has less to do with understanding the story than it does with the thing just being a big bore. Plodding. Meandering. Disjointed. It may have stayed true to the comic book, but maybe in this case, that's a bad thing, because a comic book is not a movie. The stories don't unfold in the same way on the page as on the screen.
I'm not one of those comic book fans that nit-picks at every little difference between the source material and a film version, no matter how inconsequential. I'm just a movie fan who sat through a really boring, mostly poorly acted two-and-a-half hour movie (Jackie Earle Haley and Jeffrey Dean Morgan being the the exceptions).

I haven't seen it yet, I'm going to see Watchmen in Pittsburgh at the IMAX, I loved the graphic novel, and I'm interested to see how they weave in the Pirates' story into the overall story line. don't tell me, don't tell me!

DUDE!!!!!!!!! Thats about it.
Love the graphic novel, thought the movie adaptation was actually really fantastic...can't say that most of the time *cough*X3*cough*.
I've only been awaiting this for about 7 months now, lol, and it really didn't disappoint me. I'm so glad that this project was taken on by a director who did his best to stay true to the graphic novel in detail.
The only thing I didn't like was the guy they cast for Ozymandias. He did a great job acting the role, but just didn't really look the part for me. Other than that it was great in my book.

comic
rorshacks journal, sometime later.....
comic to screen. avoid to much thinking.
explosions and much movement. I like it. doesn't really mean to portray the truth, just to make the rats think.
