Indiana cops can be a real pain, too. They're looking for college kids to nail and a cop thought he had one with me one night. I passed under a light as it was turning yellow, and I was doing a hair over 25 - the posted limit. He pulled me over and asked why he thought I did. I said I knew I wasn't speeding...he said I was correct. He said I tried to beat the light, while I knew I maintained a constant speed. I asked him if he noticed the CDL on my license; he said "yeah, what of it?". I said "I understand driving conditions quite well. At the close proximity I was to the light (I was in the crosswalk) had I jammed my brakes on and forced a complete stop, giving the stopping distance and dry road conditions, I would have come to a screeching halt with at least half if not a little more of my vehicle in the middle of the intersection. Now I believe that constitutes an unsafe driving hazard for the cars coming through the intersection from the opposite direction, and having a car behind me, I wouldn't have been able to safely back up to clear the intersection."

He stared at me for a few seconds and said "Get out of here." My wife said I was quite stupid to argue with him. I said I was in the right and I wasn't rolling over like a puppy for him. They may be able to bully the college kids, but when I'm right I'll fight tooth and nail.
One of the first things I learned when I moved to Indiana is that the way the traffic system is set up, when a light turns yellow, you only have two choices: 1. Try to beat the light 2. Slam your brakes on and slide half-way through the intersection. If you are doing the posted speed limit in certain parts of town with traffic lights, you really don't have any choice but to speed up and beat the light.

For the most part, I dig this town, but the one thing I don't like is the over-abundance of cops. I'm a pretty law-abiding dude, but I still don't trust people with a gun and a badge, especially if they have a quota to fill.
Not to be a dick, but it's illegal for any police department to issue a quota to their officers. There's no such thing as a traffic quota, or an arrest quota, it's not legal, and they just don't do it.

One of my best friends is a cop in Georgia; he was telling me that they don't have a quota, but, they do have a contest type thing to see who can give the most tickets out in a months time. Usually the one who gets the most for the month gets a monetary prize.

Then things must have changed. My father use to work as a police dispatcher, and back then, they had quotas.
