The Best of the Best

Post by poolpimp911 »

Ok what I would like to know is If you could pick the people out of the LOCAL Johnstown area bands who would you pick. Like who would you have for frontman, bass, lead guitar, drums, and then who would you pick from the Altoona and area's arround there. Then, if you put them up against each other who would win, where would they play, and who would run sound. Now I will try to keep tabs and after some time tally them up and give the final number. (JP please input your 2 cents on this one if you would)

Although I get asked about this topic a lot, I abstain from naming names here, because there is such a large and diverse pool of talent on both sides of the mountain that I can't single out one name for any given position. Also, "best" according to what criteria? What style or genre? Trying to pick singular best player is like saying an apple is better than an orange is better than a strawberry. They're all good but different.

I would, though, like to see who would win a "vo-kills" contest between Chad from Deviance, Jamie from Backstreet Law, and either Spinebelt's old bass player (Bill) or current one (P.J.).

That would be an intereesting contest, not to mention an interesting triple bill!

I have to give it to chad from deviance but If you have the Deviance cd Listen to "Burn" track that is my favorite track on there and the ending is all chad no tricks he did do the vo-kills in one shot on that song(even though sometimes live they have other people jump on stage that try to copy him on that song) sorry chad hahaha

Both kinds, eh? ROFLMAO...sounds like the waitress at Bob's Country Bunker in the "Blues Brothers": "oh we like both kinds of music....country AND western"

"stand by your man..."

ever play behind chicken wire?

one time we were playing in bellefonte and forgot our light show.... had no clue what to do so we went in the back room and found a lamp w/ no shade and the base was a ceramic chicken. it was all we could find so we stuck in on top of our speakers and plugged it in...

we still talk about "the chicken lamp incident"

Yeah, Steve from Rennis could be a part of the "vo-kills" derby as well.

I'm noticing a trend here - the "vo-kill"-ists are all bass players!

I feel honored that someone thinks I am the best at a particular thing, especially when it comes to music. Music isnt as black and white as other things in life however. And even if you took the time to put every single music genre in a list, it would still come down to personal taste. I also believe when it comes down to it, its very unhealthy for a local scene to be picked apart. I would prefer someone to judge the entire scene as a musical orgasm waiting to happen, and exploit it to the world.
