Thanks, LW, that was indeed the problem. It DL'ed at 120 megs the first time... I pulled it out, reinstalled, and it works okay, at least everything I tried. I have to say, I like the graphic look of it better, and everything is more intuitive than Word, at least to me.
The laptop I have has an effed-up version of Office... you can view Word documents someone else did, but if you want to make your own, you have to buy. I didn't buy. --->JMS

I haven't tried open office for a while, the last time I did, it did improve, but calc (same as excel) was not very proficient. It couldn't do all that excel can and it could not see excel made documents properly. So I went back to ms office ...

I will try the new one out again and see how it looks ... The only thing that gets my goat is that I don't like java (not coffee, I love coffee).

I still have it running on one of my old boxes, just for shits and giggles. Then there was the infamous cd key leak, someone from MS took a picture of a corporate cd key on a disc in front of the MS building and released it all over the net..lol. I used it for years till they finally patched. I started computing in dos and XP has been the best from MS ever.

If your a hardcore gamer, stay away from Vista. I have plenty of friends that game for money and they stick with XP.

If your using a daw on your computer don't goto Vista. Keep running XP. I watch Sweetwater.com. When they goto Vista then I might. But I run Sonar and it sucks in Vista. But works flawlessly in XP..... So Keep Xp till Sweetwater goes Vista if you like to record you stuff on the computer.
