hes absolutely right even though i like rod stewart.... it is a shame that the music scene in the US has to cater the american idle 10-19 year old hollister manufactured sheep instead of devout fans who wont blow daddys money going to a show that will be out of trend in 3 weeks anyway

wanna know what always makes me laugh when people spout about how "music today sucks compared to yesterday?"

it's just funny to me that everyone seems to forget, but metallica was 18 or 19 when they were signed, and they were trendy then. same with shit from the 70's. same in the 60's. you say music today is soooooo terrible, but for everyone of you, there was someone with the same opinion on the music you like that shared your opinion when that music came out.

just sayin, is all. i love dio, but i also like seether. i also like nickelback. expand your horizons. people that are close minded when it comes to music are only missing good music, so, yea... take that as you will.

I think he was speaking on how the media creates clones of whats popular according to who else, but the media.
They feed themselves.
He's a musician, so of course he's going to have an opinion about certain bands or musicians because they are his competition.

I'm sure there are innovative and unique bands out there, but some music lovers choose to listen to a certain genre.
Some call it close minded, but I guarantee you that for every genre or category there are countless hours of listening pleasure and thats a fact.

Right now I could go for quite a few weeks listening to only "Classic Rock" or "80's Metal" or even "Death/Thrash/Doom/Black/Speed/ Metal" because there's so much out there without going where the grass is greener so to speak.

Thats part of some genres' lifestyles as well: "Doing what you want and fuck everything else"

I appreciate your opinion as well, because there are no right or wrong.
I choose to decide for myself what is "cool".

AMEN, Ronnie!! God it's so nice to see someone so eloquently speak about what the truth of what our society has become and the worship of instant stardom. Between American Idol, Rockband and countless other things that degrade true musicianship and the corporate music bidness this thing we call music has been so reduced to production for the masses. I saw it first hand and upfront when I lived in LA and Thank God everyday when I got out of there and declared that "making it" was no longer a goal.
The day I saw Madonna be accepted as a musician was the day I knew something died. I've railed for years like Ronnie, in fact my hub calls me The Rock-n-Roll Evangelist. I just learned to ignore most of the fake wannabees and go about making music where and when I can.

I respect Ronnie for speaking his mind & totally agree with him on this. Things just aren't the way they used to be in America when rock music dominated. That is a shame. For quite some time now, it has been a sign of the times. Take me back to the 70's any day. Boston, Foreigner, Kansas, Styx, that's what I'm talking about! People still love that kind of music around here. The Johnstown concert featuring Kansas, Styx, & REO Speedwagon on March 25th is probably sold out by now. I can't go because I'm working that night. But I'm happy to have a job. :)
I've drank enough beer to float a battleship! Go ahead and Rock & Roll all night if you can but don't party every day!

I think if bands like Nickelback can "pay their dues", even if it's not as many dues as old-school bands paid, then why not? I think if the music moves you, that's all that counts.

Now, I don't watch American Idol either, but if someone has good singing talent, don't they deserve to showcase it? I realize a lot of the show is garbage, especially the beginning and the whole judges bit, but if a person moves people, they deserve the spotlight.
