drum wrap/finish

Does anyone do this locally? I'm looking to give my drums some much needed TLC, but I don't want to ship them out anywhere. I also don't feel confident doing this myself.

I have a 4 piece Tama Superstar set. The wrap is warping from different temperature extremes. I was looking to just have it re-wrapped.

Also, does anyone know of a good place to find replacement parts? I've noticed a few of my lugs have broken on my kick drum.

Parts: www.drummaker.com and there are others. I just get most of my parts from them. Nice guys.

I've wrapped some drums with the perma tape system. I don't care for it. I can explain in more detail if you'd like.

www.jamminsam.com sells pre cut wrap with the tape but I don't recommend it unless you just want a cheap way out.

The best wraps are glued along the entire surface. And you must know what your wrap is made out of. Some wraps like certain types of glue yet will melt if the wrong glue is used.

If you want wrap - hire a pro.

If you want a beautiful lacquer finish - hire paul (posted above) from www.bigheadguitars.com

My drummer is having the same problem with his bass on a pearl set. I maintain and repair most of the equipment for the band.(BEEN THERE,DONE THAT)Yea, a shameless plug,why not? I was thinking of refinishing his bass with a thin formica or wood veneer. Drummers, advice please?

I was kicking around the idea of taking the wrap off and removing all of the adhesive and maybe staining the shells, but I heard that this can ruin a drum's natural sound.

Is this true?

no, I did this to several drums, and if you take your time and don't overly sand the shells, they'll turn out beautiful and retain the same sound they had when wrapped.
