'Bout time Fender...

Post by MOONDOGGY »

Fender finally made a 6 string bass in the form of a Steve Bailey signature- fretted and fretless (no lines):

http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... 0197401306

http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... 0197400300

I guess Steve is done with Aria. Fender kind of experimented with 6ers with the DR Heartfield line, but they were far from 'Fender' vide. Price tag is about $2500 street which is absurd. Regardless, a big step for Fender.

And just as exciting, the Steve Harris signature P bass:

SWEET!

it's about time fender does something new. they've only been making basically the same damn thing for about a million years now!

i guess you gotta stick with what works!

That Steve Harris is tits man! What an influential player! He deserves any and all accolades that come his way. I'm so glad that some deserving players are getting their name on products.
They've been playing them for years, sometimes decades, so ya know it isn't only about the $$$ factor.

The price on that 6'er is kinda crazy, but hopefully in the coming years it will go down in price or spawn a more affordable version.
Good info here thanks

they should have done the slab body with binding bass for the harris signature. way cooler and more interesting.

they already pretty much made this one.

I agree. I've seen pics of Harris with the white w/ black binding Pbass and it's a classy axe! I'd take that over a lake placid blue any day. I am however a huge sucker for maple boards.

I know I'm going to get flak for this, but Fenders are way over priced for how they play and how many of them they crank out.

I hope Steve is getting paid a good bit of that price tag.

something tells me they aren't going to be cranking too many 6 string fretless basses. Especially since most 6 string fretless players have long since moved onto other brands.

but yeah, its pretty freaking expensive.

i've been thinking of getting the stuff to do it for awhile now. i want a complete flat top p bass body with no arm contour with a single seymou duncan music man humbucker in white with black binding and a p bass neck maple with black blocks... although, after cruising the warmoth site, i've been thinking about a rosewood neck with a zircote fingerboard bound in m.o.p with m.o.p. blocks. it's look soooo bad ass. no pickgaurd. tele control plate... only thing with that is you can't have a 3 band e.q. without it looking too... cluttered? with knobs.

yea... someday, i'll build it.

anyone know how to do binding? like do you do it before you paint and tape it off to paint, or do you do it after you paint?

I don't think one of these is anywhere close to being in my future (unless I steal one)!

concentric pots

i shoulda specified, two knobs. stacked bass and treb and a volume. with a 3 way switch in between. series, parallel, coil split. i just think three knobs on that little control plate would look cluttered.

do they make push/pull concentric pots? I don't know.

I've seen some P basses with 3 knobs and the output jack relocated to the side, it doesn't look too bad, beause the pickguard still has the original hole layour.

ever see the big block P bass? yea... like that but flat with binding and white. i know, i'm so picky that no company makes what i want, haha.

i think a tele guitar control plate would be too big looking. if you check the big block p bass out, you'll see what i mean. i just think they would look great in white... but then i have an un-natural attraction to white guitars and basses. i just think they look sharp.

Step into my shoes for a little bit

I like your idea for the flat top body and binding. I always liked those features on custom guitars.
You can probably just make your own control plate, but then you'd have to get it chrome plated.
Not sure but there's probably place who dip around here.

I like the design of that bailey, and I do agree that it is a little expensive. Maybe it would be good for the collector ..
