WTF.....

Post by Jsun76 »

Every working musician knows that when you go to a bar to play there is that "one guy". Last weekend we were playing at a place near Clearfield, as soon as I get out of the car "he" is standing outside looking at me all the while undoing his pants(at this point I'm ready to run away) I asked him what he was doing and he said "I gotta pee and I can't find the bathroom"(it was right inside the door he just came out of). Next thing out of his mouth is "I wanna carry something in" as he is stumbling towards my car. I told him I didn't care what he took as long as it wasn't any of my stuff. To make a long story even longer, he was up our asses the entire time we set up. Then DN started playing their set, the dude immediately ran to the mic, grabbed it, and started slurring his way through the song(can't recall what song it was). You would think after being escorted off stage a couple of times throughout the set he would give up, but this guy was a trooper. To the point now(for all the spectators reading this), when you go see a band remember these two simple things: 1. Its not karaoke so back off, and 2. bands are not jukeboxes they show up with a setlist. WTF.....

I seen a couple of bands play with people like that. Usually it was always my sister and her friends. For some reason when they started to drink, they would get this thing in their minds that they are next American idol or something. I couldn't tell you how many stages I drug them off lol ..

Oh "that guy." Yeah, he's at all our gigs too. He either wants to be a roadie, a soundman, or a singer. Some nights all three. The ones ya have to love is the guy that gets tossed out by the owner, but someone manages to sneak back in and get 14 more shots.

i absolutely hate that, i go to see the band play. not some drunk guy slurring words to a song he doesn't know, then after he sings a few words or so he thinks hes good and should be in the band and decides he will stay up there all night and "sing" along. sometimes i think its funny and other times it just royally pisses me off. another thing i hate is when the band is playin and people go up and decide they wanna talk to the guitarist or even the lead singer - i mean hey, they arent busy or anything talk away. .. ughh. i mean who cant talk to a person, sing the song and play leads, ok im done.

my band hasnt even started playing out yet and im already discovering this stuff .. lol.

How to win:
Have another mic on stage, running to the board as usual. Run it to the board, and have your sound guy put the "singer" into his own monitor. Done. Let 'em sing all night.
Or, since that's way too much work generally, have another mic on stage and just tell them it's wireless when picked up. Tell 'em he can go intereact with the crowd while he sings.
Just make sure to get your mic back.
I'll get to this one later...

I have had this type of person recently. While you are singing, they stand directly in front of you about 6 inches from your face and sing (I mean scream) as loudly as they can the wrong words off key while spit comes out of their mouths. That does not make it easy to keep singing.

Too much effort. I'd rather just throw them off.
