ROCK FOR THE TROOPS

Post by Hawk »

Well, it is finally nearing the end ! There was an update a couple of months back. You may have missed it. Here is another update. My sincere appoligies for the length of time to reach a final product.

The hold up has been with the final editing process. Hundreds :!: of hours needed sifted through. Every single second needed sorted - a daunting task, believe me (some of us tried it and found it overwhelming). (mjb and YankeeRose managed some of it).

As I said, every single second needed to be watched - and beyond that - labeled. For instance : A song starts at 4 minutes 23 seconds and ends at 12 minutes 42 seconds. Or, an interview begins at 38 minutes 31 seconds and ends at 38 minutes 43 seconds. This needed to be done for editing purposes. And we had a little trouble finding help to do this.

Even AFTER everything was "labeled", we had figures of around $1,000 do do the final editing. (Which is around how much we have collected - and still have in our possession).

God Bless Lisa Fazenbaker aka Woo. Lisa watched, labeled and edited the entire RFTT production ! If you see Woo, give her a hug and thank her for her contribution to RFTT !

I just received the discs a few days ago. I haven't yet watched all of them. It is a FOUR disc set.

What I have watched so far is extraordinary ! The video is on the amateurish side (due to the amateurs who ran the cameras) and the audio sounds OK. BUT, the feeling literally gives me chills ! It brings both tears and laughter. The sincerity of the people who spoke on camera to offer love, support, prayers and well wishes is great. And that was the over all goal of RFTT.

The final cut of RFTT is not for sale or for general public consumption. It is only for distribution to the troops over seas.

EVERY BNAD THAT FILMED FOR RFTT

PLEASE PM me your address. I still want to send a copy of your band's DVD contribution to each of you. I'll send them out when I have the time - which means be patient.

WE NEED MORE HELP

The next thing we need to do is duplicate the discs. As many as we possibly can. (One thousand of each disc (4,000 over all) sounds like a nice round number to me.) I need to confer with the committee on this. No one else has seen the 4 final discs. Perhaps (just a thought in the back of my mind) we could have a public screening, for anyone who wants to see the 4 discs. Some bar - big screen TV and plugged in to a nice PA.

Can anyone help us duplicate DVDs ?

Thank You Rockpagers ! You Rock !

Feel free to ask any questions.

Hawk, I don't have the equipment to do DVD's or I would....you all did excellent in this effort! I applaud everyone who helped out.

If you need a way to distribute some of these DVD's, I have contact with the folks who do Project Santa. Their son was Clearfield County's first death in Iraq. They mainly send packages at Christmas time, but find themselves doing it more often throughout the year. They have officially become our Charity of Choice for 2009. We will be working with them throughout the year to help them. I have an fundraising project coming up in February so we can maybe send small packages out for the Fourth of July. They send to troops not just in Iraq but many other places too. I'm sure they would love to help with the distribution of these dvds. Just let me know.

Good work everyone!

Bill, I dont have a DVD burner on my laptop or I'd be glad to help you out.

I'd like to congratulate you on the time and painstaking effort that was involved on your's and everyone's behalf.
This was a very cool and thoughtful thing to do for those guys over there.
Big thumbs up to you man! 8)

That would be cool to set-up a public screening, maybe another rockpage get together or something like that? Maybe July 3rd or 4th, or around Memorial Day?

Anytime you all want to use our place and we don't have anything else going on, go for it. Rock the Troops is something that the members of the rockpage community should be very proud of...I would be honored.

I have a question about this.
If I remember correctly, wasn't a camcorder purchased with the RFFT funds?
Has this been auctioned yet??? This would be a great way to get some extra funds for production

Yes, we still have the cancorder. Records on it's own hard drive. Very nice camera ! We need to decide on how to sell / auction it.

I'm not sure what the original distribution intent was when this all started, but the 56th Stryker brigade from PA just left the US last week I believe. They are currently in Kuwait and will probably be in Iraq by early to mid February if I had to guess.

There are a lot of local units deployed under this mobilization. I know for sure units from Johnstown, Altoona, Tyrone, Lewistown, Bellefonte, Everett, Huntingdon, and Punxsutawney are a part of it. An idea might be to send a few copies to each unit to be passed around. I'm sure we all know some people in these units. Here is a link with unit listings:

I don't have the stuff to help make copies, but if possible I would like to send a copy to a buddy of mine in Afghanistan. We served in Iraq together. I'll give you the blanks.

Why would you sell it, hangon to it and use it for more stuff for the troops. Maybe we can put on a big show this summer for them.

... or maybe on a day that's less likely to have a lot of the participating bands already gigging elsewhere. Perhaps a Sunday afternoon or maybe even a weeknight?

I finally completed viewing the dvds, and am truly humbled, honored and proud to have been a small part of this endeavor. There were a few times I was moved to tears.

Lisa (Woo), WOW, hats off to you for the editing!!!

Bill, a few questions, for the peeps sending their greetings, is the f-bomb out, and just whose bright idea was it to use that photo  on dvd #3???

(& ditto Mike's post below on Kevin's intro and Bill's camera work, but his, Rob's and who ever else ran one were great, too! :) )

After the opening post, Lisa did some more editing. Then I made copies of the final edited discs for the committee - Kevin, Mike and Donna. All approved it.

Now we are ready for the duplication process.

Some of you sent me PMs offering to help with duplication, but with a full inbox, they got pushed out. [I do have the addresses that you (bands) sent me in my save box.]

We did make a change (thank you again Lisa - as this is why she had to re-do it) of putting in one cover song from bands that did not do originals. SHHHHHhhhhh, don't tell any body ! And please don't bring this up in following posts !

With all of the bands and all of the well wishes we ( actually Woo) managed to cut it down to 4 discs. Although you can blame me (and not Woo) for the content. She would send me some discs and I would request changes and she would re-edit until we got it finished.

I have a feeling if everyone watched it, you would be saying, "Why isn't this in there, or why isn't that in there". The bottom line is, it was for the troops . And it wasn't easy cutting hundreds of hours down to four discs. The all day RFTT down town concert was cut down to one disc, with every band on it.

A BIG THANK YOU to EVERYONE that helped with this project in any way !

God Bless Our Men and Women serving our country !
