The Professor...For Real!
The Professor...For Real!
I've told a few folks about this already, but to make it official...
I received a nice present a few days before Christmas. I accepted an offer to become an adjunct instructor at Penn State Altoona starting on Jan. 12. I'll be teaching a communications class two nights a week during spring semester.
I've never taught before, so it will be a learning process for me. But I'm looking forward to the challenge, and will give it my best effort.
So after 25 years of using the nickname "The Professor" on the air and in print, I'm about to become one for real!
Thanks again to Hayf for setting the wheels into motion to make this happen!

I'll have to get the class titles so I can go to them.

Congrats, Jim! I never thought of myself as having an aptitude for teaching, primarily because I often talk over people's heads, but over this past year, I've had multiple opportunities to teach people and lead training seminars. I found the experiences to be incredibly fulfilling (plus found out that I do have the ability to teach). One of the best things in the world is to be asked a question and then see the proverbial light bulb shine over someone's head when he or she gets what you're explaining.
I'm sure with your vast knowledge base, real world experience, and superior communications skills, you'll do fantastic. Who knows. Maybe being in front of a collegiate classroom will make you think about a doctorate and making this your next full time gig.
