While the various genres, subgenres, and whatever "genre name" you want to consider, of metal are what I listen to most, my tastes are absolutely nuts. Metal, in general, is my kinda music. However, that's not all there is to music
Some years ago, when seeing a free show before moving to Altoona, I saw a blues show from a band called the Kelly Bell Band. Long and short of it,... That was one impressive act! I can't remember much of the sound to this day, but they were very down to earth guys, and had proven talent, with a mixed bluesy/rock sound. Awesome on the ears
A lot of the music I listen to depends on my mood. It's no surprise to find me listening to Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, or Donna Lewis on any given day. If my mood dictates it, anything is possible
Before the radio was removed from where I work, some of the guys would put it on and listen to the local R&B/Hip-Hop stations. I'm obviously not a fan of that. But, I'll say that there were a few songs that were quite deep on there, even if out of my genre pool. I don't remember the artists/songwriters, but 2 songs are still in my head... Bleeding Love and Disturbia were 2 of maybe 3 or 4 that I really liked. Bleeding Love is a deep song about a girl who's b/f (or ex?) walked away, and she's just struck, while Disturbia is actually a rather fun, cool song about insanity. Like I said, these aren't my usual genres, but these songs were decent for what they are!
Aside from that,... Hell, I can tolerate almost anything, and appreciate what actual musicianship was put into something
Something I'll debate to no end, to point something Paul was saying earlier, is that country is a VERY versatile genre. It's not something I usually listen to, but I've taken notice that it's no longer about someone's dog dying, wife running away, and the old clunker of a truck in the back yard
Many of the modern country musicians out there add a lot of twists to their music, and will write about just about ANYTHING! I'm serious. Happy, sad, upbeat, slow,... You name it and you'll find it in country nowadays! In fact, to this day, one of the most heart-felt songs ever written, IMHO, is Martina McBride's song Concrete Angel. It chills me! It can actually cause my hair to stand up on end to this day, and I've probably heard it half a million times! Yes, it is actually that powerful, and that well-written!
