Don't mean to bring an old topic into light, but... Ask my roommates. I've got a ton of odd covers. Here's a small list of some of the more interesting things I've heard...
Sonata Arctica - Wind Beneath My Wings
A power metal version, well-acclimated to be up-beat. Inspirational!
Graveworm - Losing My Religion
Death metal cover, twisted further. My only peeve is that they don't growl the keys
Slayer - Ina Gadda Da Vida
Interestingly metal... But not the greatest
Tori Amos - Angie; Enjoy The Silence; Hurt; Landslide; Losing My Religion; Raining Blood; Smells Like Teen Spirit
Some of these are simple covers with a lot of depth, while in others, she drastically changes the face of the song, and not in a bad way, IMHO
Type O Negative - Paranoid
This one drags at a much slower, much more sullen pace than the original Black Sabbath tune. Still good in its own reflections, but much more to the lyrics than the original feel
Richard Cheese - Been Caught Stealing; Chop Suey; Enter Sandman; Just Like Heaven; Man In The Box; More Human Than Human; Rape Me; Sunday Bloody Sunday; Welcome To The Jungle; What's My Age Again?
I dunno if anyone's familiar with Richard Cheese & Lounge Against The Machine, but listen to anything he's "(re)made". One of the various recent Dead zombie movies (the one with the girl who looks like Uma Thurman in the mall?) has a version of Down With The Sickness by Disturbed in it. Long and short is, this guy puts a very interesting twist on ANYTHING he does! Lounge music isn't the greatest thing, but mixed with the right cover,... It's funny as Hell!
