Props to Blair County Community Action Agency
I just wanted to give props and cheers to the Blair County Community Action Agency for another successful "Celebration of Neighborhoods," which happened Sunday afternoon at Altoona's Heritage Plaza. Blair County Community Action has quietly been doing this event for the past six years, along with their weekly Wednesday evening free "Summer Concert Series" at Heritage Plaza. "Celebration of Neighborhoods" saw a nice-sized crowd representing a cross-section of the Altoona community, from children to senior citizens, getting together for an afternoon of food, refreshments, displays from community service organizations, and live music. The afternoon saw performances from the bands Backdraft, Square One, Flight 19 and the Prime Time Band, plus solo performers Megan Ritchey, Shawn Osborn and Elainee Arthur. Allan Robison and Blair County Community Action have been almost single-handedly bringing people into downtown Altoona and using Heritage Plaza with events like "Celebration of Neighborhoods," the Wednesday "Summer Concert Series," the annual Sept. 11 "Unity Day" and more. If you have a Wednesday evening free, catch one of the concerts in the remaining weeks (the next one is Aug. 18; there's no concert this week due to the Bob Dylan show), and support Blair County Community Action's efforts as they bring live music to downtown Altoona free of charge.
