Altoona could really use a Thai restaurant and an Indian restaurant. There's nothing like a good Indian lunch buffet.

I've had amazing Thai food in places other than PA, have eaten at both places in State College and I must say I was very disappointed. I would be willing to give one of them (cozy thai) another chance though.
An Indian place in Altoona would be GREAT, love the Indian buffets in State College, it has got me interested in cooking Indian which I do quite often!
Also, I'm not a vegetarian, but I enjoy cooking and eating that kind of food.
I also can keep up with any man when it comes to pizza, good dark beer and italian food. Also LOVE chocolate and coffee, the darker the better. Once you go black, you never go back.

Yeah, the Thai around here isn't the greatest. I usually make it myself since there are a few Asian markets around here for the hard to find ingredients. Indian food here in SC is usually very good, I usually go to te Indian Pavilion. I've been waiting for someone to open a Lebanese restaurant, love that stuff too.

A falafel from Mao's in Philly would be amazing!
Even one from the Pita Pit in State College.

Oooh a cheese steak from Philly would be really scrumptious too. I want the real cheese not the cheese whiz!

You can't get a good cheese steak this side of the state. The CLOSEST one I got was in Camp Hill at the Brewhouse. That was delicious.

Damn I love food.

India Pavilion has been on my radar for a while, I want to try their lunch buffet sometime. I ate their curry chicken a couple of years ago at the Central PA Festival of the Arts, and was curious to see what the rest of their menu was about.

Has anyone tried eating at the Phoenicia Restaurant in Altoona yet? (It's the place on Logan Boulevard that was supposed to become the Stardust Nightclub a few years ago and sparked controversy with neighbors.) It's supposed to serve Mediterranean food, and runs some live jazz as well.

In Las Vegas, right under the Stratosphere Tower, there's a Mexican place called Tacos Mexico. It's a dive, pretty much, but the food is awesome! We got there at 1am, and I ordered a simple carne asada burrito, and when I bit into it, I swear my thingy moved a little. The locals said Mexican food's better in the US, because there are agriculture laws, and the meat quality is better.
I loved Carribean food, too. I like Puerto Rican, does anyone know of a Puerto Rican place anywhere in a hundred miles?
My birthday's next week, and I usually get Sakura or we go somewhere. My wife and I will go pretty far for a really good meal.--->JMS

If anyone out there is looking for a good way to eat healthy, this website is one of my favs. http://www.mediterrasian.com
I really like foreign foods and the recipes on this site are top notch. One thing I do have to say though, is that there is nothing that hits the spot like a juicy bacon cheeseburger and fries.
Johnny, the best Mexican food always seems to come from a dive. The best Mexican food I ever had was in Ensenada, a town on the northern coast of the Baja penninsula. The place had straw covering a dirt floor, a mariachi band playing in the corner, and beef burritos so tasty that I ordered the entree twice. My favorite local Mex place is definitely El Campesino. They need to open a place in State College.

A really tasty mexican place in Johnstown is Rey Azteca. Their food is VERY good and cheap too. Real live Mexicans run the joint (rather than the dead ones) so it HAS to be good.

Gotta disagree, witch. Besides, the Amish aren't known for hospital-level cleanliness, and their food's killer. Surely you don't have something against Pennsylvanians of German ancestry, do ya?
I second Ron's El Campesino suggestion. It ain't Tacos Mexico, but it sure as hell is better than Taco Bell. I have to check that place in Johnstown, Rey Azteca, I'm always looking for the next good thing.--->JMS

I was at the best buffet I ever had at the Charlestown, WV Racetrack & Casino on Tuesday. All the crab legs, prime rib, and shrimp you can eat and way too much other great food to list here. They offer a wide variety of gourmet food and desserts unlike any other buffet.

Hmmmmmm…………..Foooooooood!!!!!

My business has had me traveling to Brazil a good bit this past year. In Brazil they have these Brazilian Barbeques called Churascorias. In these restaurants they bring all of your side dishes once you are seated then the servers come around with different cuts and types of meat on big skewers that have been grilled over a wood fire. You pick the type of meat that you want along with the degree of wellness that you want and they slice the meat onto your plate. This goes on and on until you turn over a card that says STOP!!. This is a great way to spend an evening with colleagues and friends. Along with all of the different meats they also have one of my favorites, pineapple rubbed in cinnamon then grilled over the fire this is unbelievable. And to go along with all of this great food, good and cold beer. All this talk of different foods has me yearning for an evening at the Churascoria.

Where the hell is my passport? :?:

Today I had the craving for JP's Five-Alarm Chili, so I did up a crockpot of the stuff and am enjoying it now. Contains onion, garlic, chili peppers, hot cherry peppers, green peppers, tomatoes (all from my garden), ground beef, kidney beans, chili powder, paprika, bay leaf, oregano, tomato sauce, a touch of Louisiana hot sauce, and some chopped up Jersey Pork Roll. (This is the stuff radio talk show host Bruce Williams pimps on his show; a friend bought me a carton of it for Christmas last year, so I keep it stocked in the freezer to use in recipes like this. It's similar to mild ham or Canadian bacon in flavor.) The resulting chili has just the right 'bite' but isn't excruciating. And don't ask me how I do it, but every time, the after-effects are minimal...

I'm a meat and potatoes kinda guy. Roast beast, (chicken, beef, turkey) mashed potatoes, gravy, cream corn, bread and butter.

My wife also makes some great stuffed pork chops.

And she makes a great pot roast cooked with vegetables, and bite size bits of potatoes served over home made dumplings.
