damn XBox 360

Post by KyleMayket »

Since I got a job I hardly play it anymore, only on the weekends. I grabbed one of my controllers this morning looking forward to some good competitive Halo, pressed the center button to turn on the console, and looked for my TV remote to switch my input. I hit my input button to the correct channel and had a blank screen. I thought I had the wrong input, but then I looked at my 360, and it had 3 blinking red lights on the front... The dreaded red ring of death. I immediately get online and contact Microsoft they ask for the serial number, and they tell me that it's out of warranty. They ask what my problem is, and I tell them, and then they inform me that the red ring of death has a 3 year warranty on it, so I'm still good. So they're paying for the shipping and they're going to fix it for free and paying to ship it back to me, I'll update when I get more, but that's pretty damn good customer service if you ask me. it had better be, this problem is a fault of their design, so they're fixing it for free for anyone with that problem.

I'm on my second 360.. right now it sounds like a crock pot on overdrive when it's on so we'll see how long that lasts...

It better make it through a few solid months of Gears 2 / CoD5 / Left4Dead :(

I was actually surprised to see that the 360 was the first of the 3 consoles to come down in price. Both the Wii and the PS3 are still well over $200, but the XB360 is being sold for $199 by alot of retailers. I myself will play anything seeing that I am a video-game whore, so I'm sure I will be buying one pretty soon...

Anyway, I know it is taboo to break the manufacture's seal on these things but, I've has my PS2 since it was brand new and yes it is one of the bulky fuckers. Until recently I have NEVER had a problem with it. When it did start acting goofy, I simply took it apart and cleaned it. When I say, "took it apart," I mean I literally stripped it and cleaned EVERYTHING. To the point it looked brand new inside as well as outside.
One thing I did notice about it, now it is faster then usual, the load time on some games doesn't take as long as it used to. And to think I was going to scrap it for a sleeker, newer model. I'm glad I didn't. For some reason, I find comfort in the old bulky version opposed to the new one.

Sorry, just had to throw that on here...please return to your original broadcast...SnOOge!

Steve the only problem with the 199.00 Xbox 360 is that there is no hard drive. Its the arcade version. The one with the 20 Gig hard drive is still I think close to 300. Its worth it tho because u can buy the Hard Drive separately. Def worth the investment tho. I dont know where I would be without my 360. I do vocals so I dont really have an instrument to sit at home with and jam out on so I kill people on Halo. Thats my excitement when Im not playing shows!

Is it over 3 years old? if not, then microsoft will fix it for free (unless you've already tampered with it!) That's what I'm doing, they're even paying for the shipping via UPS.

Rumour

Post by tornandfrayed »

Ah the rumor mill! I love the 360! Gear 2 is awesome, I also recommend Dead Space and Fallout 3.

The RROD. I have heard that the main problem is the type of thermal compound that was used for the processor. I have also heard that if you get the RROD, you need to try to clear the cache on the 360. I think that you do this by turning the unit on, then turning it off and holding the power button for about 30 seconds until it turns back on again.

Can't verify this yet but it sure would not hurt....

Oh BTW, Rob when you play for 14 hours a day .......

Peace..

I had the red ring not too long ago. I just decided to go buy an Elite for one major reason. I've had friends that have had the ring and sent theirs back only to get it back and have it happen again. So my thought process was basically to buy a newer Xbox in hopes that it has that issue taken care of. Nobody that I know that has an Elite 360 has said that it has red ringed on them. Here's hoping my theory works.

the problem actually stems from their design. They made the console outer shell, and then stuffed things inside, when they tried to shoe-horn a DVD drive in there, they realized that they needed to make more room. They accomplished this by making the heat sink on the GPU smaller. This in turn causes it to overheat and then the thermal compound melts and the heat sink totally falls off, and then the GPU fries. And this is the "General Equipment Failure" that is signified by the RRoD.

I just got my copy of GoW2 (Amazon + Free shipping so it took awhile) ... if I get another RRoD, I'm buying a new xbox instantly at Best Buy.. not waiting 3+ weeks to get it back when I have two more games coming this month (CoD: World at War today and Left 4 Dead later this month)
:) :)

RROD

there is a repair kit available from

www.divineo.com

I have heard that once it is fixed it is a done deal. They are also saying that the Xecuter Team has checked these and 18 out of 18 worked...
