H-S-H wiring

Post by lonewolf »

Ok, so I looked all over the web and couldn't find a schematic to wire an H-S-H configuration with only a 5-way switch the way I wanted it. For the "S" I want to use a single-coil sized humbucker...probably a Barden S-Deluxe...and not change its humbucker configuration in any switch position. It took awhile, but with some unconventional wiring and a Super Switch, there is a way to wire it with the following specs:

Position 1: bridge pickup with coils in series
Position 2: bridge pickup with coils paralleled in parallel with the middle pickup
Position 3: middle pickup with coils in series
Position 4: neck pickup with coils paralleled in parallel with the middle pickup
Position 5: standard neck pickup with coils in series

Can anybody figure it out?

Just a thought, it sounds to me like Seymour Duncan would have this on their Site, or perhaps DiMarzio?

It seems like a common H-S-H setup to me.

I already had it figured out before the thread, but you probably won't find it on the web. There are a few connections that are unconventional. I just wanted to get some people thinking. Consider this a quiz.

What controls are you using?
How many volume pots?
How many tone pot?
And I'm assuming it's a 5 way strat style?
Also how many conductors are on your humbuckers?
How many on the single coil?
What color is your guitar? :)

After I get more info from you, give me a little bit to ponder this ok. It looks like it's a head scratcher, but I am going to draw one up with out the help of the internet.

1 volume pot - no switch
1 tone pot - no switch
1 5-way super switch (it has four 5 to 1 switches)

4 conductor with ground on all pickups. One conductor for each pole of each coil. Probable setup:

Duncan JB Bridge
Barden S-Deluxe middle (alt. Duncan Vintage Rails or Duckbuckers)
Duncan Jazz Neck

Black - its the Steinberger (later--maybe amber stain on maple)

No, my scanner did.
I dont know any other way for me to post my diagram online.
I can stop by and drop it off to you, though.

You said that you already figured this out, right?

Yep--I have a schematic ready to post.

Switch1--SW1--used for bridge hum switching
Switch2--SW2--used for quack positions
Switch3--SW3--used for neck hum switching
Switch4--SW4--used for final out to volume HOT

You can always fill in the blanks with the connections (I put in mid std connections):

Bridge humbucker

N+ ----
N- -----
S+ ----
S- -----

Middle single coil sized humbucker

N+ ---- SW4, positions 2,3,4, SW3-common
N- ----- S+
S+ ---- N-
S- ----- Ground

Neck humbucker:

N+ ----
N- -----
S+ ----
S- -----

Sw1common -
Sw2common -
Sw3common - Mid N+, SW4, positions 2,3,4
Sw4common - Volume HOT

Once you do the bridge and neck N+ connections directly to hot, its pretty simple. There are a few other variations that will work, but this makes the most sense and least wiring:
