The Island of Misfit CD's
The Island of Misfit CD's
I found myself listening to Drama by Yes this weekend. It's an odd CD from their career. They had an odd line up. The CD comes in a just over 36 minutes. It contained no big AOR hits. I'm not really into Yes all that much but I have always dug that CD. I was wondering what CD that everyone had in their collection that was kind of a black sheep in terms of the rest of their collection that they liked to pull out and listen to.
There was a song on the original Mortal Kombat soundtrack that was like that for me. Normally, I can't stand that style of music, but it was really something.
Orbital - "Halcyon + On + On"
I think it was around ten minutes long. Good tune if you are in a mellow mood.

For me it's been "Nobody Said It Was Easy" by The Four Horsemen. Just a kickass CD from start to finish. I reviewed it years ago when I was writing for "The Final Cut" for Jim Price, and it's the only CD I've ever given a perfect score to.
Also, "Tattoed Beat Messiah" from Zodiac Mindwarp And The Love Reaction. Unreal album.
Some others:
"Cover To Cover"- Jeff Healey Band
"Here Comes Trouble"- Scatterbrain
""Sarsippius' Ark (Limited Edition)"- Infectious Grooves
"Circus"- Lenny Kravitz
"Roots"- Sepultura

Dood...
Stingray-- self-titled. I actually shoplifted this cassette about 20 years ago (Yes, it was stupid. Yes, someone dared me. No, I don't do that.) from Jamesway... it was on Carerre records, and had this song, "Better The Devil You Know," that was totally unlike anything on radio at that point, but would have easily been a huge hit about 7 or 8 years LATER. Sort of polished pop-ish metal... it could have been big-hair style, but predated all that stuff, I think it came out in like '79 or '80, it was in the cut-out bin. You DO shop the cut-out bins, right? Somebody dealt me some fate, because it was stolen, along with about 400 other cassettes (including dozens of hours of material from my first band) from my car. Music giveth, and music taketh away, I guess.
And, ToonaRock, that Jeff Healey CD is awesome... it's in my player right now. I got it... you guessed it, cut-out bin. Jee-zus, he's good.--------------->JMS

Matthew Sweet's Girlfriend album is probably one of my fav's but not like most of the music I listen to..... or should I say a little more diversified. I like it because he really cuts away from a specific style or genre. I also have his "Son of a Beast" album which has some pretty sweet tunes.... no pun intended!
Some other off the wallers are...
Frente - Frente
Hum - stars is one of my favorites
Polaris - is another group that has some get up 'n get tunes... I don't know, I like'em!

Grievous Angel - the late Gram Parsons (and I don't like country)
Welcome to the Pleasure Dome - Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Avalon - Roxy Music
Love Rocks - Sade
Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield
also, various Burt Bacharach
Exile on Main Street - Stones (not that different for my taste like the ones above, but different for the Stones)
Those are the Black Sheeps I can think of right now
