Does anyone know the original Fret wire size on the 70's G&L Strats? I am doing a refret and trying not to alter the slots too much. I am planning on using hide glue and clamping, rather than compression fretting.. Just seems like a better option so as not to risk messing up the neck on this puppy. Stew Mac's Medium ( W .084 Crown .039 Tang .055) is what I am leaning towards. Any other guitar nuts with options???

I would tend to think that the fret size is a medium as well. That seemed to be the common fret size used in older Srtats, so I'd think that Leo also used that size in his G&L guitars as well.
If your frets aren't too worn down, you can compare your new fret wire to the old wire and see if they are similar in height and width before you commit to using it. And then send the fret wire back and order another size if it is the wrong size.

Some of the frets actually crumbled as I was pulling them out from being so worn. Ordered the fret wire. I'm looking forward to this job. I'm in the process of custom painting a Peavy bass too. Also another fun project.

While it may appear to be in ok condition just by looking at it, doesnt mean that it is.
Since you're guitar is an older one, I would agree with your decision to restore it. Otherwise, it might be smarter from a financial stand point to simply replace the entire neck and start off with a fresh after market neck.
When you are done with it I'd love to see some before and after shots of the neck, and also your opinion of the frets that you bought.
What size did you ultimately go with?
Also it's a pre-requisite that everyone posts pictures of their gear when posting in the tech sector.
