Yeah that is Al's setup.

I actually heard this in person, and let me tell you guys it is an eerie feeling to close your eyes and hear this rig. You'd swear that it's Iommi playing right in front of you! The tone is spot on, no doubt about it!

For anyone looking to play strictly Sabbath stuff, like Al plays, this is THE rig to have.

I love it!
Very nice stuff there brother!

Yea I name all of mine actually! I'm sure that others do, but they dont admit it.

I noticed that the controls on the Epiphone are offset a little bit than they are on the Gibby.

I always wondered, and you are the guy to ask:
How does the Epi compare to the Gibson in terms of feel, playability, and sound?

I always wanted a lefty SG, and I almost bought the Epi Iommi model before I bought my DK2.

I know that both the Gib, and the Epi share the same basic body and neck woods, and also both have the signature Iommi Pickups.

Thanks Al

sr. vs jr.

Post by alfred »

the gibson is set up in c# because it doesn't play as well as jr. jr. is faster
and it seems to have a smaller rounded neck. the controls are no problem
turn then all to 11 and bang away. Sr. is a little (i wouldn't say wider but the neck feels bigger and fatter) but the sound is way better and fatter. the true sound of the amp doesn't come out until the vol. is at 2 3\4 .
the sound is killing me. but killing me in a good way.

Killing yourself to live.

So you think that the Epiphone is worth the money for a new one? And do you think it comes close in sound to the Iommi?

Last time I was over at your house you only had the Gibson. When you were playing along with those Sabbath backing tracks it sounded so damn close to Iommi it was even funny.
I'd love to have a Laney GH-100TI Iommi sig. amp like yours to mess around with Sabbath stuff.
Thanks for the info so far.

the price went up to $600.00 on musicians friend
but if you wait till next year i hear tony is coming out
with 3 or 4 more models of the sg all will have his sig.
pickups but with different options they are suppose to
be more affordable.

That's cool, I hope it happens too. I'd love to have one of either really, so it doesnt matter much to me which one.
