PSU vs. Michigan...or JP vs. ToonaRockGuy 2008
Well, it's that time of year again...time for Penn State vs. Michigan, and the annual beer bet between Jim Price and myself, so I thought I'd do my pre-game prediction:
I've already contacted JP and asked him what type of brew he desires this year.
That's right, PSU fans, mark it down. For the first time in a decade, PSU will not only win this game, it won't be anywhere near close. I can take my only solace in the fact that JP deserves a case, since he's been providing it for me for the past 10 years. Wolverine coach RichRod is a complete dolt. The team has no talent, as evidenced Saturday by their loss to Toledo.
To me, common sense says, if you are coming in as a new coach with your high-powered option offense, and your new players are all slow and untalented, you don't put in that high-powered option offense! But, RichRod decided to, and now he's reaping the benefits. Loss after loss. Very nice.
Penn State is unbelievable. Firing on all cylinders, Clark is out of his mind good, Royster is putting up some great numbers, defense is their standard brick wall, and their special teams are a force to be reckoned with.
My prediction for the game:
Penn State 48
Michigan 10
So, I offer an early congrats, JP and the Nittany Nation. Here's to another run at a National Title!

I'm certainly hoping that your prediction comes true. I'm not gonna celebrate until I see it with my own eyes. Nothing personal Kev, but I hope PSU takes out 9 games worth of frustration on Michigan. (Out of respect for you, I didn't even call them scUM
)
Happy Valley is gonna be INSANE next Saturday. I'll be in section EJ screaming my ass off as usual.
It blew my mind that you guys lost to Toledo at HOME.
Of course it also blew my mind when we did the same thing a few years ago.
If we do win, are you gonna root for PSU or Ohio State the next week?

My win/loss percentage since the bet started is 100%....at least until Saturday. The betting started back in 1997, with Michigan winning the game 38-7. Ironically, if JP and I had started that bet a year earlier, he would have won, as PSU beat UM in 1996. That's the last time that Penn State has defeated the Wolverines. It's been a nice run, but it's OVAH now.metalchurch wrote:Kevin, this has been an annual wager for a while hasn't it? I think it's awesome!
What's your win/loss % so far?
Dude, are you serious?Bag wrote:If we do win, are you gonna root for PSU or Ohio State the next week?
I will never EVER root for OSU. I root for Penn State by proxy, unless they are playing Michigan.
I would rather have my balls dragged over 3 miles of cut glass in a rubbing alcohol bath than ever hope for a Buckeye win.
I hate the tuba player that dots the "I" in Ohio.
I hate that stupid mascot Brutus.
I hate Jim Tressell.
I refuse to wear scarlet and gray together.
If a Buckeye fan was hit by a car, and I was the only person on the road, I'd run him over again, just for being a Buckeye fan.
I hate that stupid horseshoe shaped stadium. Close it in, for God's sake.
I hate ignorant OSU fans and their stupid Buckeye necklaces.
I hate Woody Hayes, even though he's dead.
I HATE OHIO STATE.

I honestly think I can clear some fridge space for the forthcoming Genesee 30-pack. As long as nobody gets arrested this week and Joe lets the offense do what it can do, I think we finally get the Michigan monkey off our back on Saturday.
I'll call it Penn State 41-3.
I'm tentatively planning to be at Beaver Stadium on Saturday. I don't have tickets for the game, but I plan to stroll around the parking area and report on tailgate parties featuring live music. (I know of at least one; Zupe is entertaining the Michigan alumni attending the game.) It's Penn State homecoming, and should be a crazy atmosphere!

Funny story:
I went to Fox's to pick up my pizza and the guy at the counter asked if I was watching the game.
I said "no not yet" (I'm not a football fan and I didnt even know what game he was talking about)
After I paid I turned to walk out and he said "So who are you rooting for?"
(He called my bluff)
I said "who's playing again?"
He said "Penn State and Michigan"
I said "Penn State of course!!!"
Then I noticed he was wearing a Michigan hat!
I kinda felt bad after that.
I felt bad that he liked Michigan.

I was hoping I was just having a nightmare in the first half, and that I would wake up and it would just be a bad dream...
Everything that could go wrong, did. (Including the twirler dropping her baton, the drum major not making his 1st flip, losing the coin toss, and our first snap going over Clark's head)
The TD we got right before the half was HUGE!
That said, the boyz came out SMOKIN in the 2nd half and slayed that demon. Next streak to bite the dust is not winning in "The Shoe."
This team is "special."

I was at Beaver Stadium to check out live music at tailgate parties. I didn't have a ticket to the game, so I was walking around the parking lot outside the stadium for much of the first half, bumming out when Michigan jumped out to the early lead and Penn State started out slow with their mistakes. I was starting to fear that the curse was going to rear its ugly head again. But then I recalled that Penn State has been prone to slow starts a few times already this season, and that Michigan has imploded in the second half during several of their games. I watched the second half of the game inside the HUB building with a bunch of students and alumni, and saw Penn State assert control and take the game over. Finally the monkey has been drop-kicked off their backs, and I can look forward to a free case of Genesee for a change!
Next week at the Horseshoe will be a war, but I think Penn State can win it. As the radio guys said after the game, the better team will win next Saturday, and it will come down to who is better prepared and wants it more, Penn State or Ohio State.
If the Lions get past OSU, they need to be careful against a letdown at Iowa, and hopefully either Texas or Alabama will lose one before the end of the season (Texas has the rougher gauntlet to run, they still have to face Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Kansas and play the Big 12 Championship game, probably a rematch against Missouri. Alabama's biggest remaining hurdles would appear to be a road game at LSU and the SEC Championship game.
Wouldn't it be wild if it came down to Penn State vs. Alabama for the BCS Championship, 30 years after that epic Sugar Bowl championship game between the two schools (which Alabama won)?
But first, the Lions need to take care of business next Saturday in Columbus. Go Lions!

I even saw bag as I was stumbling back to the tailgate haha!

I've never been to a college or pro game. I watch all of the Monday Night games though.
I am glad that PSU is doing well, cause they are the hometown team and they are representing PA very well.
