Absolutely.

Heh. Rob said "whitie"
JackANSI wrote:People vote for the stupid reasons...not the ones that actually matter. Thats why the government is the way it is today.
Also too true. Hear people spout about "the founding fathers" but the biggest
thing they expected was for the electorate to be informed and educated, and
to take it upon itself to be that way. EXTREME FAIL!

Ya, that, along with all the mini-rebellions post-Revolution, are really interesting.

Btw, while my dad was from W. PA (we discussed the medic who saved his life in Korea...a black man), my mom is from E. Central. Oh, she is still racist. As for Obama and his ethnicity, his mama was caucasian.

Jason and I have had discussions re: Scots/Irish Heritage in person and on RP, although I too wish I knew more about all of my Scottish roots/connections. Hope the family and you are well, cousin!

Nah, a lot of old people just smell that way. It's that mixture of urine and mothballs that causes it. ------->JMS

I do not like the smell of old people. I always think bengay when they are around.

As for Murtha; the schmuck was right on the fact that the election will be based on race. He was wrong saying that I am a racist if I do not vote for Obama.

Heck, that and Opera supports him. You know she has to be right. After all, she thinks that L. Ron Hubbard was the messiah. So she has to be a very righteous person

One more thing: Ohio will be contested; no matter who wins.

I can't stand Oprah. Over the years, she's gotten outta control. On the very few occasions these days I happen to hear her show (someone in my household has it on), imo she speaks waaaay too self-righteously. 'ACCORDING TO THE ALMIGHTY OPRAH, SO IT SHALL BE DONE.' I detest that in a person, no matter how correct they may happen to be on a lot of topics.

Admittedly, I voted for Clinton in the primary. (I can freely admit I was wrong about what I perceived I saw in Obama's eyes. Frustration and anger can appear the same. :) ) However, when it was clear Clinton lost the nomination and I checked into the, who I feel are the viable, able to win, candidates' platforms, Obama was the one I chose, as his platform and plans are closest to Clinton's. (Whether anything will ever make it past Congress and the Senate, is another thing entirely. Campaign PROMISES are one thing!) Craig Ferguson, who became a naturalized citizen earlier this year, said many moving things about the duty/right to Vote, and also something to this effect: "If you don't Vote, you're a MORON!" I do not care WHO you Vote for, even if I personally feel you are wasting your Vote, or you write someone in for President. There are other seats/races besides President to Vote for, and I wholeheartedly agree with Mr. Ferguson. :D

Aspercreme Hot smells a lot like BenGay, so do menthol pain patches.
 My point? On a baaaad day, I smell more like an old person than many old people.

If that is the ONLY reason, pretty much...but if that is the ONLY reason someone is NOT Voting for him, BINGO! Ya know, in that case, McCain shoulda picked Condi, a black woman, then he would have had the 'women' and the black Vote!

It is pretty much the only reason, I mean no one even has a clue anyways. Does anyone know where he stands on issues, it's just the same old rhetoric without any ideas, you know, other than throwing money at things and making false promises.

Howard Stern did a skit where he sent someone to Harlem to talk to people about voting. Know that the majority was going to vote for Obama, he switched the candidates sticking points (saying Obama was pro-life and wanted to stay in Iraq, and McCain was the opposite) and when they said that they were voting for Obama, the interviewer would ask them," So are you voting for Obama because he's against abortion, or because he wants to continue the occupation of Iraq?" And all those people actually picked one of those choices without realizing that isn't what Barack is running on. Silly, but funny.

here is a link to Obama's

Post by tornandfrayed »

Here is a link to Obama's web page that pretty much sums up the plans issue by issue. I Think that the country is more prosperous under Democratic rule.

I never even considered being a republican cause I always sort of thought that was the party of old grumpy people. I know from this page that is not the case here but when I left this area and was growing up all the people I knew and respected were Democrats.

I guess maybe it rubs off eh?

Either way it is good to know that the future is still ours...

68% of all Hispanics identify themselves as white. I think that represents about 24.4 million Hispanics who identify themselves as white.

Total USA population is around 305,425,000
And that's the problem. Hispanic is not an "ethnicity". There are no "white" or "black" hispanics. We are Hispanic, period. I'm not black, I'm not white. I'm Hispanic.

That goes to show that people have no idea who they are voting for, or care. They only look at external appearance and go from there. Stupidity runs rampate in some people.

Like I said, Black people will vote for obama because he is black. Nothing more, nothing less.

And no I am not a racist. It is a proven point, and truthful point. Now some one can fire me from ESPN for mentioning it (Limbaugh point for those who miss it).

Just a question, cuz I really am interested now,...how would you define "Hispanic"? Are Spaniards (as in from Spain) Hispanic? I'm guessing not by your definition (they are "white"?). Is "Hispanic" something that is particular to the New world? Does it require some admixture of Old world Spanish and New World Amerindian and/or African genes? I'm just wondering because I'm not at all in touch with the "Hispanic" community and I have an interest in "identity" issues in reference to the sociological point of view. If "Hispanic" is not an ethnicity, what is it?...a "meta-ethnicity"?, ...a "race"? I would consider myself to be (predominantly) American [Scottish (Irish)/ German/ Norwegian] ethnically, "Celto-germanic" meta-ethnically, and Caucasoid (Indo-European) racially. How does that relate to someone who is "Hispanic"?

Did you see the study shown on tv where they showed photo's of sentors and governers who have ran for office in 2002 and 2004,and they'd show sets of two photos and asked "which candidate shows more confidence"?

They had only a few seconds to choose candidate "A" or "B".
70% of those candidates who appeared to be the most confident actually did get elected prior to this test.
So I guess they were going off the idea that most uneducated voters do in fact vote based on looks alone.
Of course those "uneducated" voters weren't the only ones voting in actuality.

There were also "body language experts" scrutinizing candidates and reading what their bodies and facial expressions were saying along with what they were verbally expressing.

Neat stuff.
That would be a nice job to have, and I'd actually qualify if they count my teenage peeping years.

I wouldn't mind a job like that either. I can read pretty good at times. It is proven point though when it comes to something like that ...

"Hispanic" (as I was brought up to understand it, since it's my heritage) is someone who is from Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Domincan Republic, any of the predominately Spanish-speaking Caribbean islands, or Mexico. Some folks mistakenly refer to Mexican people as "Latinos". That's actually incorrect, as "Latino" refers to someone of Latin American descent, ie Guatemala, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, etc.

To me, it's a race. I'm not white, I'm not black, I'm Hispanic, plain and simple. I hate that the Census board asks for race and ethnicity, and won't put Hispanic as a race, only an ethnicity. I can't really answer that properly, since I don't view Hispanic as an ethnicity.

To answer the last part of your question, I consider myself Hispanic racially, and I have no idea what "meta-ethnical" is.

Even though I don't agree with a lot of it, Wikipedia has a very well-written page on Hispanic definitions of what they think it is.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hispanic

At any rate, I'm not trying to stir anything up, I'm just voicing my opinion of how I see myself.
