When we get this benefit rolling, I say we contact the local media and let them in on it. If MTV gave one fuck about music anymore I'd contact their news team as well (I still may just for the hell of it). With my kid on the way I don't know if The Side Effects will be able to do this (would depend on the date), but you can bet your ass I will apply my mad, shamelessness to blow this shit up. Maybe we should have a formal meeting somewhere (a bar) in Altoona very soon to plan this shit out. Maybe we can all meet on a thursday night when the Canes are playing at 30 Somethings? Whaddya think? huh?

Me and a few people spoke the day this happend about putting together many benefit shows to raise money for jim to possibly start his own internet radio station out of his house.. or even taking that idea a step futher. I as well as many other musicians were there in the studio for his last night and felt the obligation to do something... The first thought was to have one benefit show a month for six months. and call it The Backyard Rocker Tour... we also talked about contacting the mirror and news stations about this.. but decided not to because ultimately its jims decision as to what level he wants to take this, if at all.
We decided on many benifit shows because of the large volume of artists from around the area, that would want to support jim. Its obvious that we couldnt just hold one, because everyone in the state i think would want to support this man... This man is an icon and has done us all justice, and now it is time for us all to return the favor.. with his blessing of course.
I for one as well as many i believe, will not listen to Q94 without his voice coming across the airwaves. To me Jim is Q94. He is such an enormously respected man across the whole state. He has played all of our songs, and even had us all in to the studio for magical moments, for everyone to hear. I donate my time and effort, whatever it may consist of, to helping this man do whatever he wants to do... and I feel we all owe him that much. What do rockpagers feel about The Backyard Rocker Tour??

To update everyone, I just informed Diane at Q94 that it probably is best just to let the "Backyard Rocker" go at this point. While the weekly sponsorship idea is appreciated, my thinking is that it is just a temporary fix that keeps it on there for a few more weeks, and doesn't really do anything for the long-term future of the show. I also wasn't optimistic that the station owner would approve the plan. Most employers don't favor allowing laid-off employees to remain around their business after the fact; they prefer a clean break.
This does NOT mean the end of the "Backyard Rocker." I do have several scenarios on the table to keep the show going, and I will have a further announcement about the show's future within the next few days.

whatever it's going to be, i'm sure i'll be able to pick it up. cool!
I've gotta hand it to you JP. You're proving you're as classy an individual as they come with your whole attitude towards everything in such an awkward scenario. I think I speak for the masses here on RockPage in saying that whatever your decisions are, we're gonna go out and put that interest into the plans. That would probably even be so far as demolishing buildings and causing a riot in your name if it came down to it... So, keep us updated

Jim, I'm really glad to hear you still want to do the Back Yard Rocker. Now, there's a lot of bands around here and bands usually have more than one member right? Ok, a five piece band lays out 10 bucks each and presto they sponsor the best radio show on the air! The band gets mentions during the week and two commercials during the show. I think you would have sponsors and lots of them. When you said about the "clean break" with the station owner I thought of two things. One, he let you go and would never admit it was the wrong decision, and two, he let you go and would never admit it was the wrong decision. His poor ol' pride would be hurt, after all owners are never wrong are they?
Now how much would we have to pony up for an increase in transmitter power?

Not saying that I won't listen to jim on it. I just hope they don't play the same song every ten minutes. Then that is the forever way I guess.
