Taylor Guitars Road Show

Is anybody going to the Taylor Guitars Road Show at Rainbow Music tonight? Looks like a fun time for guitar junkies. If they bring a Liberty Tree guitar, I may need to be restrained.

Sounds like fun, do they take their products around to their dealer's for promotional purposes, or to get new dealers?

I'm not sure I understand why they are doing this.

It seems like an educational/infomercial sort of thing. It's done with the factory staff that actually builds 'em.

Ok I wasnt sure if it was like a road show that is put together to promote the company and nw products. That sounds like a good thing they are doing. It would be nice if more companies were doing this. I wish that I worked marketing @ Jackson/Charvel cause I'd pimp the hell out of that company. Coming from a player's perspective there's alot of things that we would like to see changed, but change doesnt come easy, because alot of companies do what is and has been working for them. It's a shame cause there's alot of things that should be done differently not only in J/C/Fender, but other companies as well.

You going to this Jimi?

Yep. There aren't many brands I have a religious devotion to, but Taylor is one of them.

I should go and check that out, cause I'm the market for an acoustic anyway. I've been eyeballing this lefty Ovation, I think its a Celebrity 77 or something.

Me too, I have a Dreadnought ....I just wish I had chosen the Concert or Auditorium body since I'm more of a finger stylist.

Never played a Taylor until a month ago. Wow! Got to play several different models (sorry don't remember what they were). Prices ranged from around $800-$2900. That $2900 model was incredible. Big full warm tone, just awesome. On the downside my budget was in the "less than a grand" area. I actually found a nice Ovation shallow bowl for under $400 that played as nice or better than other makes that sold for 2 to 3 times as much. Being that this guitar would be run through an amp (using my Line6 Flextone III-works great with an acoustic) I wasn't as concerned with the natural acoustic tone of the guitar. Give us a report of your findings Mr. Hatt!

Kenny, did you buy your Ovation online or locally? Do you know of any Ovation dealers around here?
I thought Music Emporium had them, but I cant recall if they still do.

This was fun for a gear junkie. The concept was that the presenter played the same song on different body shapes and different woods, explaining the tonal differences of each one. They also demonstrated the T5 hybrid.

The presenter was Marc Seal. Very cool dude. Imagine if Joe Satriani traded his chops for even better melodies. And hair.

I got a free t-shirt.

The most fun part was the "petting zoo" where they turned the crowd loose to play the dozens of custom instruments they brought. I probably played $100,000 worth of guitars in half an hour. Know what? The Taylors are SOOOO consistent that this actually made me less inclined to want an expensive one. My lowly 310CE is as good as the fancier ones. (Well, I did fall in love with a redwood guitar.)

Sorry took so long to reply Joe but I got that Ovation at the Guitar Center in Monroeville. They had a ton of acoustics overall but only 4 or 5 Ovations. The one I got has a traditional sound hole directly under the strings and a shallow bowl. Very comfortable to play & nice tone. All for under $400. Sweet!

I've been looking at Ovation for a while, since I saw their specs posted somewhere. The one I'm looking at has a 1-11/16" nut width with a 25.1" scale, which I think would be rather comfortable to play. Add that to the medium or shallow bowl body shape and it sounds even better to me.

I'm mainly looking for an acoustic that wouldn't be a far reach from my Jackson's in terms of playability and comfort. I'm really picky about my necks like the profile,radius,scale length,and fret size, so I want to find something that I can adapt to easily and enjoy playing.

I also want a slim body that isn't uncomfortable to play. I love the Gibson SJ-200, they are beautiful, but they are just too big. The normal dreadnaught size is still a tad on the big side also.

The Ovation I like is the Celebrity LCE-77. It has the 5 little sound holes, as opposed to the standard centered round one.

I did see that Emporium carries them, so I may just look into that after I bring my Jackson home.
