Update on Q94/Backyard Rocker
I just received this email from Diane Boslet, station manager of Q94, who by the way is in full support of JP and trying very hard to make things right. Please take the following information under consideration:
"I have received an email from an unknown " Central PA Music Lover" he is asking about sponsorships from several area businesses and bands to help keep the BackYard Rocker on the air to at least finish out this year. PLEASE have anyone who is wants to do this call me ASAP, i will do what I can. I have passed the email along to JP to see what his choice is on this.

I'm trying to get a breakdown of the cost per show. Maybe bands/artists that are scheduled on the BYR can sponsor themselves if it's not too expensive. After all, it is publicity and a form of advertising which up until now has been free. I am scheduled to appear on the BYR in November and I would be more than happy to pay for my time if it isn't outrageously expensive. I'll keep you posted.
Here's the latest:
"It is 14 weeks through the end of the year, $50 sponsorship per
week (thats 2 hour show) total of $700 per sponsorship, that will get
commercials during the show (at least 1X each hour) plus sponsorship
mentions during the week promoting the show and live mentions during the
show as a sponsor. I promise to make it worth the money for anyone who
wants to do this. I have sent an email to JP to get his thoughts, I
don't want to do anything without his ok
thanks for you help
Diane"
I for one would be more than happy to shell out $50 for my time slot. If we did a benefit concert, we could raise enough to keep it on the air for the rest of the year. Any sponsorship over that could be for Jim to use as he saw fit. I'll be speaking to some local business owners and I'll do what I can.

Each show is $50. The $700 covers the entire 14 week period. If you re-read the post with the email from the station manager, it's a little confusing because she says $700 per sponsor, but that's not the case. If 14 people put up $50 each, the BYR would air through December 31st.Lisa wrote:I don't think that the $700 is enough to cover it all. I think its per sponsor but no mention of how many sponsors they would need.
For a $50 sponsorship, that will buy one commercial each hour (2 hour show), plus mention in the promos for the show throughout the week AND mentions during the show. Station manager Diane said she would make it worth the money to sponsor a show/shows. Not bad for $50 I'd say.
i'm in,hell if it only cost 700 dollors , i throw in 50 and i can't even pick up the Q, soooooo, between me and clint we already raised 100 bux.
clint, i'm dropping a check for 50 in an envelope and mailing it out in the morning.
way to get the ball rolling man!
anybody else kickin in?
whats the address? i thought it was in the first post but it's not.

LOL...you're awsome man. You may want to call Diane Boslet first just to make sure that JP is going to do this and to see if there is anything she can do for you.. Her number is 943-6112. She may want you to hold on a second until she's sure JP is committed to keeping it going, but I think he would be. Hopefully my business contacts will be kicking in here shortly as well. I'm really hoping to cover the full amount.mjb wrote:i'm in,hell if it only cost 700 dollors , i throw in 50 and i can't even pick up the Q, soooooo, between me and clint we already raised 100 bux.

So....if we did a nice little benefit show...we could raise enough cash to pay for a whole year of this show?
Hmmmmmm
I smell a benefit coming on...

i think that as long as we have benefit shows for this, we could probably pay up full years. as long as the prfessor wants to do it, i mean. as long as you keep having benefits, i think it could work to keep the byr on the air until jim wants to quit doing it. that's assuming he dosn't already wanna quit doing it.

That's what I don't understand either. Jim hasnt mentioned either way how he feels and there's all of these suggestions going on about how to get him back on the air.
Please guys dont take this wrong, it's awesome what you all are doing, it really is, but shouldn't someone talk to Jim before planning all of this stuff and making waves?
There's no less than 6 threads all relative to the same ideas, some are spin offs of other threads all saying the same thing.
I know everyone is grateful for Jim doing all these great things for the bands, musicians, and the scene in general, and you all want to show your support and say thanks in your own ways for what he has done all of these years.
I think this could all be organized better had someone talked to Jim about his ultimate decision whether or not he even wants to continue.
There just seems like too many indians and not enough chiefs while organizing and compiling all of these great ideas.
I will doanything i can do to help and I'm sure that every single person on here would as well, but it seems to have hit a brick wall w/ out JP's consent.
I hope you guys see that I'm with you all on this and not against you. There's so many great ideas, and I see alot of them brought to fruition and having a positive impact, but nothing is going to happen unless JP wants it to.

I have spoken with Jim. My impression from him is that he was waiting to hear final word from the higher ups about continuing the possibility of airing the BYR. He didn't feel too good about them allowing him to continue, but it seemed as though he would still do the show if he was able. He also has been sent all of the emails I shared with you from Diane Boslet, station manager concerning the sponsorships and finishing out the year. Although we have no official word yet, I have a feeling that if the funds were there to pay him and sponsor the show, he would do it. I'm sure he will make a statement about all of this in the very near future as funding for the show may already have begun to come in.metalchurch wrote:That's what I don't understand either. First, my apologies for not responding sooner; on top of everything else going on in my life this week, I had a Pennsylvania Musician article deadline, and had to put next month's article together over the past couple of days, thus my delayed response.
Thanks to CCdrums and everyone else for your interest in keeping the "Backyard Rocker" alive. I definitely want to keep the "Rocker" going, in whatever form it takes over the next few weeks.
As I told Diane and CCdrums, it ultimately comes down to the guy in charge at Q94, and if he gives the approval for it to continue with the sponsorships. And beyond that, I have to see where my future employment picture takes me within the next 14 weeks. If everything falls into place, I could continue the "Backyard Rocker" on Q94 on a week-by-week basis, pending how my job situation develops over the next several weeks. And, of course, if the show's continuation on Q94 gets approved by the guy in charge.
Hopefully I'll have a final answer on all this by the end of the week, as well as a better idea of where the "Backyard Rocker" goes from here.
Again, thanks for your support and interest.

So right now we call Diane first correct? (Before plunking down any funds)
I can't believe that $50 per show is right. That $700 figure sounds more realistic. I mean, $50 doesn't even sound like enough to pay for electricity, let alone have anything left for JP.
I mean if it is $50 a show, I could pick up a month or two of it.

Yep what Johnny said. You definitely have the support, we just need to know what direction to take it.songsmith wrote:Jimmy, you obviously have the full support of the local and regional music community, and right now is when we pay you back for all you do.
You say the word, and we'll move the mountain.-------->JMS
@CCDrums; thanks for not taking my earlier post out of context. I tried to word it carefully so as to not come off like I was against you or anyone else, but rather with you guys. I hope you understand my confusion with all of these posts being laid down without even hearing from JP. If you had talked to him, why didn't you say so?

Regardless, it's all good bro! Now that we've heard from Jim regarding this matter we can collectively group together and kick some ass and produce some results. Great job everyone!!
No problem man. I understood your concern and your reasoning was valid. I had just talked to Jim yesterday and didn't get a chance to post until I replied to your email. I was just going by what Diane from the station had told me. Plus, I thought maybe Jim would have made a statement first explaining his status. At any rate, now we know what's up. I guess we'll see where we stand with the BYR shortly.metalchurch wrote:Yep what Johnny said.
