Whew, yeah, another pitfall of girls in the band... of course guys COULD just keep it in their pants, but no, they gotta ruin it.paul wrote:more drama in that type of situation which is intensified when one of the guys in the band is banging the singer and when they have problems the entire band has issues
I hate to make it sound like I'm picking on the girls, I really do, but someone mentioned another issue in the girl-singer department: Many girls think they can sing. Is there a woman alive who hasn't sung into a hairbrush to her favorite record at some point in their youth? Karaoke strengthens their delusion, they sing, and then guys go nuts for the hot chick, despite her barely being able to carry a tune. I myself am guilty of perpetuating the vocalist dream of a certain barmaid who has no business going anywhere near a microphone, despite having boobies that make the angels sing. I like to think I'm a bit more mature than that, but a feller sees those things, and "sure, Darlin', you can sing backup!"
A good female singer is hard to find because we ask so much as musicians. It goes beyond looks, and I personally ask a lot BECAUSE she's a woman. I don't want her shaking her ass, because I want the music to do the talking. Being attractive is nice, but being good at what you do is very attractive to me.
I've heard Ruschelle on the BYR over the years, great singer (and funny as hell, apparently), and you kinda get the idea she'd kick the sh*t out of you if you pushed her. That's the stuff. Trace, I was at the Railroader's gig a few weeks ago, you were jumping around, hitting the high-notes with force and enthusiasm... I told Hawk you'd better dial it back some, nobody can keep up that pace... that was a woman obviously having a full-on good time being herself. The 70's rock influence was so clear, the experience and chops were obvious.
Again, I like female bandmembers, and if you go out and do your craft, and spend some time in the trenches getting your hands dirty with the boys, that's how it's meant to be, you go, girl.
If you don't, come back when you do.
