How long ya been in "the biz"?

I was the "Halleluiah Kid" in church as a toddler, if that counts for anything. (I went to a Pentecostal church, and according to my family, and I caught on to grown-ups saying "Halleluiah" and "Amen." I spoke at a pretty early age, and I'd chime right in. Apparently, I was quite the celebrity there.)
As for actual musical pursuit, my family sang at local churches since before I can remember.
My first paid rock show was a birthday party in July, 1984, but I had a garage band or two before that. I also played bass at that time, but was drummer in the first garage band, and NO VOCALS. Too shy.
I stayed on the music hard, worked a day-job occasionally, and switched from rock/metal to country in '93, until I just got too burnt out in '99. After 4 years of not having my own project (I still played out at least monthly, though, thanks to the Hurricanes and other great friends), I went to the first Rockpage Jam, got the bug again, and here I am.

Took the stage for the first time as a freshman in H.S. 1983 that makes 25 years for me... Geez where have all the years gone? Next Sat. I will be 40 !!! Even saying that makes me ill.

Correct me if I am wrong Bobby, but weren't you and John Saksa working on a resurrection of Forces in the late 80s?

There sure are quite a few of us geezer rockers in the region still out there playing and doing what we love to do. That is fantastic. It's amazing how many Rockpagers have been in the business for 30 + years. Most of us figured out to move from the garage into the basement to practice since it's much warmer near the furnace in winter.

the first band i was in that actually played in front of people was called bloody knuckles..we played (weaziled our way onto stage) at the holy name church festival in '89 or '90. we opened with our original smash hit "pigs suck" then busted into black flag's version of "louie louie", then they pulled the plug on us.......i've been hooked ever since.

Good topic!

All told, I've been in the 'biz' for 25+ years of vocal performance in some form or another. My current band, The NightOwls, have been together almost 5 years. Last year I was able to do some gigging with The Kee Kee Anderson Band of PA with some mighty fine musicians. My first paying gig was at 16 years old in a folk-rock group called The Sink-Hole Bottom Band and, yes, we played in clubs that served alcohol

Over the years I've had the opportunity to participate in several music projects. I've also met some exceptional musicians and performed as guest vocalist with many. I've learned alot, developed an appreciation for many genres (I especially love the blues!) and have met many good people. I rock harder now than I ever did and I still love every minute of it !!

I noodled around in my bedroom for almost four years before I got the courage enough to throw myself to the wolves.

I started with the saxophone in the school band at 10. By 13, I was playing bass after an unsuccessful try at guitar. I started playing out about 2 months before my 16th birthday so my Dad had to drive me to my first couple of gigs.

This is the start of my 26th year of live performing and I can still party!

My first paying gigs were actually with my brother and sisters at wedding ceremonies. My brother and I played acoustic guitars. That was 1976. In 1978, I started doing the band thing playing bass. I've been playing bass and mixing in an acoustic gig now and then for 32 years. Wow..it doesn't seem that long!
