Posting cover songs on the internet

Is is illegal to post audio and video of your band performing cover songs on the internet? I know that you cant on my space but like if you have your own .com is that illegal?

Technically, it is copyright infringement.

yeah, but that doesn't seem to stop any idiot with cheap recording software from putting crappy covers they've done on youtube.

Ah, but it sounded even worse today thru studio monitors than it did before thru headphones. Best laugh all week.
