Home jaming systems

Post by BloodyFingers »

I put together a home jamming system and it sounds really great. So I thought I would do a post on it.

If you have been thinking about doing this I hope I can save you some money.

My speakers are Technical Pro and so is the amp. The amp is a 1000 watts and the speakers are model DBox-15. They sound really good and are not that costly. I run a AMD based computer with a M-Audio Delta 44. The M-Audio is 4 in and 4 out. The 4 out go into a Behringer 2442 FX mixer. The mixer has a 4 sub group which the 4 inputs on the M-Audio conect. I only use a BBE max 482 for additional main sound effects. I'm running EZ Drummer and it has a good sound for a drum plugin.

So if you were thinking about doing some thing like this talk to Rick at Ace's Music in Cresson. He did me a nice pricing on everything except computer and soundcard.

If you want to hear some work i did on it click the link below and then let me know what you think.

I've been eyeing this up as a base recording interface and also as a live digital programmable mixer for The Verge:

Looks nice

Post by BloodyFingers »

Looks nice but too pricey for me. I have 4 i/o, which is all I need for what I'm doing. I made this post to try and save guys money on home jamming systems (home recording). A friend of mine has the moto 24i/i and it did work really nice till the audio card pooped out. I just like writing instrumentals, but now a friend of mine and I are jamming on a regular bases. Hopefully we will play out somewhere soon.

I just ordered the MOTU 896MKIII from MF (they had a deal for $150 off a $1000 purchase and I couldn't resist.)

I don't know why they didn't change the model number to 8192, since it has a 192Mhz maximum sampling rate.

Jeff,

I actually passed on the Motu because of a few different things that I didnt care for. I wast real crazy about the routing options for inserts. I did read great reviews about that model and I did like the fact that it gives u a hell of a lot more meter to read than a lot of its competitors. At then end of the day it came down to the options. I think u will really dig it.

I will probably get more use out of it as a live mixer than recording.

Generally, I don't use inserts much, but I wish it had built-in gates to go along with the built-in compression--that would save me a few channels of inserts on drums. I may end up using the S/PDIF input for 2 channels of insert returns so I don't have to use up any mic inputs.

Metering is what I really like about it. 10 segment meters. 8 for inputs, 2 for mains and 8 more are fully programmable. S/N is gonna be great. I'll practically be able to run the thing with earplugs in.

I agree the metering is a nice feature. Using SPDIF u may need to get a sync clock. I had read a few complaints about not syncing up with certain gear.
