Drum shells?

Post by hardhitter »

I have been trying to get info on acrylic IRC shells. I have played the old acrylics but I'm told that the new IRC's are better. If anyone has any input I would love to hear from you. A friend of mine just saw this guy ( http://www.christianhoffe.com/ ) play and said that his drums sounded awsome. I'm really thinking about building a acrylic set now. I called Drum maker and it would cost me about $600 for the shells and about $1200 for the edges cut and holes. Please share some info!

CCDrums I know you have info. I know you where there and heard Bonham's set. Ludwig is using IRC shells.

I've read a few things about each and the comparisons. From what I understand, there is no tonal difference between a seamed acrylic drum and one without a seam. (If that's what you're asking).

Size (?x?), bearing edge choice and head choice will affect the sound more, no matter who makes the acrylic shell.

What genre are you using them for ?
Did you decide on an edge choice ?

They will only cut a 45 single on acrylics. I don't know the reason for this but they told me that when I called.

I will be using them for a little of everything but more of the heavier rock side. I'm still going to use a Maple snare.

I'm realy interested in sound! The only live acrylics I have heard are blink 182.

This is the Quote I got
10x12 AB shell amber w/edges 107.70 107.70
13x14 AB shell amber w/edges 149.70 149.70

I've worked with drummaker before. They do a nice job.

I really don't know much about acrylic other than what I read.

You'll see a snare in my avatar. I had that custom built. The guy who did it for me recommended (I took his recommendation) (and he did) round over edges. But that's a snare drum, not toms.

Actually, the night Clint and Bonham played, Clint's drums sounded better. Just my opinion though.

Gook luck !
