McCain choosed Palin .. Smart move ? (Political)
I saw the speech today and I like her. I am still on the fence, but I am liking this lady. Much more than the socialist nut case Hillary .... Anyone else see the report ???
Music Rocks!
this seems risky to me; women may dislike another female candidate other than Hillary because she is taking the mantle of first female vice president, which many thought Hillary was at least destined to be after losing the presidential bid. it may be "if Hillary isn't the first female vice pres, then i'll be damned if this woman will be..."; one female already told me as much... hard to say... the Clinton supporters are nothing if not passionate about Hillary and what they percieve as her being screwed by this whole process...
It all very simple. McCain was the "war" candidate. He would win the war !
Now that we are being ask to leave Iraq, McCain needs a new tactic to SCARE you with. His staff (yes, a lobbyist for the head of Georgia) tried to get a war started. Just something small. But Russia came in and kicked ass. We had to back down. Seems our military is depleted.
She, the new girl in town, will tell you endlessly that Obama will kill babies (right to choose vs. abortion). Obama will have gay rights (gays will ruin you). She wants to teach religion in the schools, perhaps remove Darwinism. (Science will ruin you).
How do you get religion into schools ? Privatise.
These issues will become McCain's NEW wars. Because the Republicans usually win by scaring people.
Some of you might know which way I lean on these three subjects. But I don't like the idea of scaring the votes out of people. There are many more issues, and this new girl has no clue about economy or foreign relations at all. She was the mayor of a town of 5,000 people.
BTW, did I mention that her husband "sometimes" works for British Petroleum (BP) ? And that Rush Limbaugh (the big oil shill) has been praising her for a few months ? I believe Rush might have been the one who picked her.
She's a follower. She'll do what she's told to do.

I honestly believe the republicans threw this election to McCain thinking they don't have a shot and they might as well give McCain one last day in the spotlight rather than ruin any of their chances in 2012...
But McCain a smart fucker...and it's starting to piss me off. He's not only having his cronies running smear after smear campaign on Obama to scare rednecks, but now he's jumped on the bandwagon of popular politics and picked a woman as his running mate.
Do you think McCain wanted to pick her? No.
Do you think that McCain thinks she is the best candidate? No.
Do you think he wants to pull Hillary's many millions of supporters over to his side - even though their political views are almost polar opposites? Uh huh...
The problem is - The average American is dumb enough to fall for these tricks and elect him president...
Hell, we elected a moron 8 years ago - then re-elected him after he drove this country into the ground with his corporate (big oil) interests...
We finally have a candidate running "for the people". I'd love to see what happens if we elect him... I'm not sure I believe everything Obama says, but I know I don't believe ANYTHING McCain says or does...

You might be right. They gave up on McCain. Their only hope is the poorly informed voter.
But they didn't just pick ANY woman and throw her into the mix.
I'm willing to bet that they (because they obviously don't have any candidates) are setting her up to run for president in 2012. By then they can say she has experience.

I'm curious Joe. Could you break that down for me ?undercoverjoe wrote:50% of wage earners do not pay federal income taxes. Theses are the people who want Obama. he will tax those who pay taxes even more, and if you vote for him, the government will take care of you.
Obama, leader of the Nanny State.
How much do 50% of the wage earners make ?
For instance:
25% make 10,000 a year ?
Honestly, would you back it up and break it down.
Seems to me, he wants to return the tax to the people Bush gave tax cuts to, the top % of money makers.
Thanks
Bill
In many ways she has more experience than Obama. And he wouldn't be just a heartbeat away if his ticket wins.mjb wrote:i didn't see but i heard. not much expierience to be a heartbeat away. i'm sure the dems are going to beat him up on that. thats kinda been mccaines bitch about obama. hasn't it. could be good ,could be bad. ill have to check it out more.
Then, think about it....Gov. Clinton, who became President Clinton...compare the experience there and he was elected President.
Compare experience...I think the Dem. Party will lose.
So far, I like this pick. Haven't found a reason yet why I do not like her. We still have something like 67 days to decide.
Experience ? How long has she been governor ?Lisa wrote:In many ways she has more experience than Obama. No reason to "not' like her ? What are your reasons for liking her ? Since you have obviously already thought this out .
I have thought about this....
She is for family.
She is pro-union (not many Republicans follow that trend. I grew up in a Union family and support them.)
She is an outdoorsman/woman. Gun rights, conservation issues, all of those things that go along with the outdoors will be looked at from a similar point of view to mine.
Wasteful spending is one reason she is popular in Alaska. She was able to go in and clean up. She got rid of a lot of special interest items in the state budget.
She can cross party and work with any political persons to get the work done. She's hired people from all parties including dems and independents.
She's served as the Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. As she left that position, she shook some of the government top-dogs up and forced retirement of some who were found to be doing some illegal actions in the political world.
Along with that, she's forced an investigation in another Republican Senate member's illegal actions.
Her approval rating in Alaska is at 80%...who wouldn't take that.
She's for drilling here and drilling now....as Gov. of Alaska, you would think she would know a little about the environment and want to protect it. Tells me its worth us proceeding with.
Opposes Same Sex marriages....I'm not anti-gay. But, there are a lot of issues with this topic and its beyond the bedroom. I think its an issue that needs to be thought about more and not just voted on without thinking it through more. She has granted same-sex couples the right to benefits...that is the right thing.
She understands the feelings of the families who have those in the military. She's not going to support keeping our troops in harms way any longer than we have to, but at the same time, she's not going to support them leaving the job half finished...again.
So, she has experience with personnel issues, environmental issues, budget (oh, her experience in budget is huge), social issues, educational issues, etc.
I think that she would be a fine Vice President and if need, I think she would step up to the plate just fine.
She doesn't attend a anti-white radical church. She doesn't flip flop in issues...you can see that in her record. She doesn't just talk a good game, she walks the walk.
Damn...I think you just convinced me.

Prior to that ......ah.........?
She made a statement that she has been too busy (running Alaska) to follow the Iraq war and she doesn't know much about it. HUH ?
Not someone I want behind a man who will be 77 at the end of his term, if he makes it that long.
Never mind. Chaney and Rove will call all of the shots from behind the scenes anyhow.
i think we can ALL agree that this is the most bizarro election this country has ever / will ever see. i feel like i'm watching reality tv; "Coming next week- a suprise so shocking that even the independents will be beside themselves!!! Will an alien run a fourth party campain, or will John McCain finally discover his biological dad has tentacles and Joe Biden is really a robot!!! Tune in for all the unbelivable excitement!!!" it's almost becoming a tragic comedy...
Well done.Lisa wrote:I have thought about this....

I disagree, but I respect your thouroughness. I just hope you knew those things before I ask. But well done.
It sounds like she is against many things McCain represents.
EVERYONE in Alaska is for drilling. That's a known fact. McCain voted AGAINST the oil in Anwar staying in the USA. That's right, he's against us keeping what is ours. He voted to give it away to the big oil companies and let them sell it on the world market. Since it would only be a small part of the world market oil, our prices wouldn't come down much, if at all.
Try telling her, IF YOU DRILL HERE, IT STAYES HERE. Then listen for the huge laughs.

Turns out she is on record for being for the "bridge to nowhere" . Her statement about it was that she was happy that her congressman was in the position to earmark a bill to bring it to Alaska. So much for her stance against corrupt government.
Although, she is on record for being against it after she was for it. Can you say flip flop for political reasons ?

Bill, all oil is sold on the world market. It is a global price structure. If we can get our oil from Alaska and not have to ship it from the Middle East, we do save some shipping costs. And then we would not have to care what happens to that hell hole called the Middle East.Hawk wrote:It sounds like she is against many things McCain represents.![]()

Any addition to the supply of oil will bring down the price. Any means any, whether from Alaska or Russia or Yemen, if the supply goes up, price comes down, same as demand going down.
T. Boone Pickens says we have 3% of the world's oil reserves. If you dumped all of Alaska's oil on the market at once, that'd knock the price down 10.1 cents, based on $3.59 a gallon. Oh, and that'd be between 5 and 10 years from now, based on expectations.
I agree that US oil resource reserves should be kept here. I think it should also be sold to Exxon/Mobil at a price that would cancel out the 11 billion they made in profit last quarter. Wipe that profit out. Like they wiped out my profits last winter in my heating fuel tank. And all this spring and summer on the road. Fair is fair.
I can't chime in on Palin yet. I know zero about the woman, and I'm not about to pass judgement based on her introduction speech. Speeches are like sales pitches, and I know a sales pitch. It does seem odd that McCain would play the experience angle on Obama, then hire a woman with less experience than Obama. If he wins, don't look for a repeat of Cheney, where the vice-president is really the co-president. At this point so early in the game, Palin appears to be pretty much ornamental, like Dan Quayle.------->JMS

T. Boone is not the only oil person out there. I have read many others who say with the oil in Alaska, in Utah with the oil shale, and off our shores, we can be totally oil independent. Two good things will happen, the price will come down with increased supply, and we can give the Middle East the free bird. For the greenies, the most polluting part of bringing oil from overseas is the the shipping with the supertankers. So even the greenies would be happy.l
Do you really want government involvement in price controls? That would open the door. They just might start regulating the door price for blue grass bands, known price gougers.

Yes, I want price controls. Without them, Big Oil is just going to keep doing what they're doing. Don't forget: There is no shortage of crude oil. There never was. They just wanted more money, and got it. It happened with natural gas, cable TV, and electricity service... as soon as an industry is deregulated, instead of the promised price drop due to competition, the industry binds together, and doubles our bills. For gasoline, it nearly tripled. So, yeah. If they can't play nice, tax 'em until their wallets are as empty as mine. And when our band makes 11 billion a quarter, tax me, too. I pay my taxes willingly. It sucks, but it's part of being a patriotic American. When I take home 4600 times the amount our roadies make, it's time to pay the piper.
Oh, T. Boone Pickens isn't the only Texas oilman. There are a couple others who live in the White House, but T. Boone is the only one spending his own money to change things... the ones in the White House prefer to spend your money to keep things the way they are. If we sell our oil on the world market, nothing will change. We'll still be just as dependent on the people who pay the people who fly airplanes into skyscrapers. Drill Here, Keep It Here. ---->JMS
