Another point as far as Foreigner: While this was a career high-water point for the locals and one to be fondly remembered forever, for those guys, it was a weeknight gig in a rather small town. Any time they gave folks like us would be a gift, I think. Obviously, they put their pants on one leg at a time, but it IS business as usual for them, so even a little bit of glad-handing with the supporting act should be appreciated.
Thin Ice once opened for Foghat, and it was a big deal for us, but just another Saturday night for them. They were, however, friendly, and said some things that they probably say to every opener, that made us sound like we were peers, and I'll smile about that when I'm 90 years old.
I'm really happy and proud for HalfTempted, they're my friends, and good guys all the way 'round. To play such a show with a band who was huge in your formative years, in your hometown, to a huge crowd... you all know every single one of us daydreamed about it as teenagers. ------>JMS

Johnny,
you've made some valid points and I totally agree. The point that I was trying to make is the fact that Foreigner should've spent more time with the fans, because after all the fan's are who makes them, and they aren't exactly a headlining stadium act any more, but merely a juke box hero with stars in their eyes. ( )
So, in theory they were equal for that one night, and should have acted accordingly.
Sure, it may have been another saturday night for them, but it wasn't an ordinary saturday night for the 'common folk'. Signed Bands should know that and remember what it was like starting out.

I'm not dissing Foreigner, in fact I listen to their older stuff and I enjoy it, I'm just trying to point out that no matter where your music takes you, always remember what got you to where you're at.
How you act could be the difference between making a new fan or making an enemy of your music.

Like I said, I'm glad that everyone had a great time, I would've loved to have seen Foreigner

I understand that Foreigner was pretty personable with the fans they were able to greet. I heard that their manager (or tour coordinator) kept them to a pretty tight schedule that night as far as meet and greet, so they could get back on the road at a reasonable hour after the concert to get to their next destination.

That is understandable then. I wasn't trying to go off into a tangent about how bad they suck, or make an example out of them, it may have come off that way though. I apologize.
But you guys see where I'm coming from though. I've seen many bands act like they are better, when in fact they were sharing the stage w/ unsigned bands, say at a county fair or something for ex.
I'm sorry Forigner, I'm a dirty white boy, I know.

It looks like Altoona saw one of Jason Bonham's last shows with Foreigner on Tuesday night. This just in from my radio prep service:

This morning (Friday) on a Detroit radio station, drummer Jason Bonham revealed that he is leaving Foreigner at the end of this month. Since Jason filled the seat once occupied by his late father John Bonham at the Zeppelin show in London last December, does this raise the likelihood of a full-fledged Led Zeppelin reunion? Jason says, "I've been working with Jimmy [Page] and John Paul [Jones] and trying to do just do some new material and some writing. I don't know what it will be, [but] it will be something." Jason says his first priority is to "go and watch my kids grow up because they've grown up way to fast in the last four years." No word from Foreigner on who will replace Jason. But he will be with them tonight (Friday) when they perform in Detroit.

Hello to all!

First off, let me thank each and every one of you for all the support you showed this show. It was an incredible night, and from what i am reading, you all enjoyed it as much as I did. I am proud of all the hard work and effort that went in to this show and I think Altoona got a chance to see something very special on Tuesday night.

A few observations and thank yous:

To Ryan Matthew - Great great set my friend. What a great way to get the night started. Even after a popped string, you had people in your hands. Once again, you made one of my shows better because you were part of it.

To Half-Tempted: WOW! What an incredible set! You brought professionalism, talent, and kick-ass music to the crowd! You got them ready for an incredible night, and from what i can tell - you had a good time doing it! That, to me is the most important thing - that you all had a good experience and rocked the crowd. Ronny, Clint, Joe, and Steve, thank you so much for making this night special.

To Altoona fans: Again, I have to say WOW! What a great turnout on a great night! It is only with you that I can continue to bring shows like this to the area. Please keep sending me your suggestions either on here or via email at: scott@in2itmarketing.com Again, thank you.

To Q94, Adam, and Jim: Thank you for getting behind this show. I love working with you guys and the whole station. Kudos to you for keeping the train running.

To RockPage citizens: Thanks for your support, comments, and honesty. If I do something that sucks - tell me. If you want something else - ask for it. If you like it - tell me that too.

Lastly, I wanted to address the ongoing issue with the bands being accesible. I've done about 400-500 shows in the past 7 years and most of the headliners are extremely easy to get along with and all in all alot of fun to work with. Some I have even had the pleasure to remain friends with over that time. On Tuesday, the day started off with the nightmare of the wrong generator being delivered for the lighting. Panic set in and we needed to locate another and get it in before show time - we located one it PGH and it arrived just prior to doors being opened. So you probably saw lights being focused right up to Half-Tempted's set. Add to that, the band had gotten stuck in construction on the drive from PGH (I know, imagine that huh?) and was going to arrive 2 hours later than their scheduled time. They literally pulled in, changes clothes and then I had to drive them to the museum doors for a short meet and greet. In the past, artists typically cancel these m&G when they are late, but Mick told me that a promise was a promise and they were going to be there.

After the M&G, at 7:30, the band loaded back up and was driven back to the dressing room space to prepare for the show. Jason asked me if he could walk and that is how he ended up backstage and was really great and met the HT guys.

I know how easy it is to think that "they should remember who their fans are", but remember this, there were 2000 people there on Tuesday, if they greet one, they unfortunately have to be ready to meet them all, because then they don't have to disappoint anyone.

Trust me, there are asses in this business, many of them. But we as fans, promoters, bandmates, etc. try to keep their names out of circulation unless they are TRULY dicks. Even though they may be hideous, somebody out there idolizes them and it isn't for me to knock that fan down. I will however tell you that there are a few that i could care less about and will gladly tell you there names if you ask cause i will never book them again - but not in print. :-)

I know this has been long, but thanks for sticking with me to the end. Keep coming to my shows and i promise you each one will be better than the last. You local bands, send me cd's and I'll keep you in mind for future shows.

Thanks again for helping me dream big.

Very interesting info, JP.....which makes Jason Bonham's decision to meet and greet with us after our set even cooler!!! Led Zep at the museum  well.....probably not, but Bonham also was out on Carson Street shaking a couple hands after a UFO show at the Rex in Pittsburgh......from a security standpoint, not a safe call, but it proves that Jason Bonham is a class act who knows that fans are important to the success of every band.....Steve Mc. really made out with the sticks and the signed drum head at this point....way to go bro!

More important for the city of Altoona than whether or not Foreigner hung out with Half Tempted (i heard they did a meet and greet earlier that day with some of the fans who paid the higher ticket price.....well, not much earlier than 7:30 i guess) is that an Altoona audience of over 2,000 really rocked hard on August 19th and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.....we all need to applaud Scott's efforts and wish the in2it man continued success in his promotional efforts because this show should lead to more shows like it.....meaning more opportunities for local bands as well.....a win-win situation!

I too have done many shows with national acts and people have to realize these acts want time to themselves. But as for Ryan and Half temped, great job. It was nice to mix you guys, It was a long day for me and bringing my own gear in and setting for no pay was worth working with Ryan and the Half Temped boys.

Brian, you did a very good job mixing for Half Tempted !

Hey Couz, A huge thank you from the Half Tempted boys. You are the reason people are still stopping me in supermarkets telling me that we rock that night. If we can ever repay the favor, please let us know. (Believe it or not band members CAN lift equipment  )

Hawk,

I used all my own front of house gear and snake to the stage as well as stage monitors mics and stands, I just fed Galaxys drive rack a left and right and it worked great for me that way, most nationals want you to run a left and right into their console so they have control of how it sounds, but Bob from Foreigner was great he left me with a system flat and untouched from any compression. I do however do want to be clear I was not complaining about doing this for free I love to get behind a console and mix and when I get a chance with good musicians it is well worth it. So please forget that comment. Again thanks to the Half temped boys I had a good time with no stress.

This was one of many shows I didn't want to miss, but when the day arrived and I was going up/down the stairs one at a time, there was no way...in the afternoon, a friend called and said they wanted to go, but couldn't find anyone to go with so most likely wouldn't go, which made me feel even worse...glad to know the Bands ROCKED and everyone that went had a BLAST! 8)
