U wanna know why I'm mad? Let me explain:

I turned away bands who were beggin to be a part of this show.
Dude gets mad because a sixty year old lady put EXACTLY what she was told to put on the flyer and bails on the show. He never contacted me about fixing/changing anything and the guitar player had to call and tell me they were out. Am I allowed to be upset about that? The fucking fact is IT WAS NOT TOM PETTY! I never even heard of this band before a few weeks ago. Who's acting like a child in the situation, The guy who's all butthurt and cans the show and treats his band like shit cuz he's having a fit, or the rest of the world for thinking that was very egotistical?
As was stated earlier; this is a forum about music, we're talking about music. Yes this thread may not be the most uplifting/positive thread, but it's real. Go back to lurking and let us talk about whatever we want.
Or better yet start some positive threads or take part in the positive threads. Check the benefits section, theres all kinds of good going on in this forum.

But just an FYI for Sanchez - I don't know douche (at least I don't think I do) and I don't know exactly what was communicated (or not communicated) between you, but it's a little presumptious to assume the rest of the world agrees with (either of) you on this topic.

Personally, if was douche, and my band was called "douche and the other guys" and it was just listed as "the other guys", I would definitely ask that it be corrected and advertised appropriately to get the word out for a couple of reasons.

If I had a band named like this, and I personally had a decent fan base, and the show was advertised incorrectly (without my name) - fans might think I'm not going to be there and skip out on the show. They could also potentially think that this might not even be my band. As you know, some bands make a slight variation of their "full" band name and go out as an acoustic act, so this is definitely a mis-communication that could cause confusion among the fans.

But in any case, I don't know what went on between you. I'm just weighing in an opinion...

If (as you say) douche was a major dick wad about it, or if he actually did cancel the show because of the mistake in the flyer - well, then you're right. But not being privy to that information first hand - I'm just gonna say there's definitely some question to the exact level of this guy's douchery!

I just wanted to point out that there are definitely other factors that might cause the level of douchy-ness to be less than what is being portrayed in this post, and I also wanted to point out that "the world" doesn't agree on anything.

There's hundreds of bands around this area alone, and the band names are sometimes very similar. If something is advertised incorrectly and is not an exact name of the band, it can be confusing for fans...

But again, to be clear: I'm not sticking up for douche.

I'm just saying that wanting a flyer to use an established band name is not itself egotistical (even if the band name contains a single member's name). How a person handles the situation when this kind of mistake is made is what can make that person an egotistical douche.

And personally, I don't know about what transpired between these guys to make that kind of call.

I often deal with professional musicians in my business. Shawn deals with them in his business. We agree on the same thing. The big stars usually are easy to deal with. It's the "wannabes" who are a pain .

Actually the "wannabes" really have the "I'm-a-big-star-you-just-don't-know-it-so-I-will-act-like-an-asshole-and-you-will-think-I-am-a-star" syndrome.

That has definitely been my experience on the local level. Majority of the "successful" local and regional acts that I've worked with have been very cool cats and have become great friends of mine. On the other hand, we've had some no-name opening bands that seriously needed some punches in the mouths. Perhaps the former feel that they have nothing to prove, while latter think that they need to have attitude to be taken seriously. I don't know. BTW, I'm not saying that all of the opening bands we've worked with had attitudes. It's just a couple of them really left lasting BAD impressions on us due to their behavior.

....but to the point. I'm not involved in this situation, so I really can't point fingers on the communication aspect. I will say, however, that Brian (i.e., Dirty Sanchez) is one of the most quality people I've met while doing this whole music thing. He's one of the most straight-up cats that you're going to meet, and that's something that's seriously lacking in this world. Joe (i.e., Metalchurch) is an equally cool dude, and I've never seen or heard him say anything that would warrant "fuckwad" status.

Regardless of the points of why someone would make a big deal over the way their name appears on a flyer, the bottom line is that there is ABSOLUTELY NO room for egos on a benefit gig. Period. It's not about you; it's about the charitable reason of the benefit in the first place. Anyone who thinks it's about them needs to seriously drop off the bill. We've had our name misspelled on marquees before. It happens. Big fuckin' deal.

i know that felix and the hurricanes will be rockin the house. if you have that big of a fan base, your fans will know and still come.

Just to clear something up, I was not called a fuckwad, or anything from this ElDouche-o guy.
He made a point to call people out, but failed to mention me for some reason.
So, I quoted the section where he was calling people out, and added myself, because I was involved in this thread just as much as everyone else, and I felt bad cause I was left out initially.

Hopefully there is a lesson to be learned here by new bands or whomever:

Be truthful and honest, and it will go a long way. And for christs sake DO NOT get on a public forum and call people out, cause you're way out numbered #1, and #2 it does not do anything for your character especially when the cards were stacked against you in the first place.

Hope we can all put this behind us,move on, and have a great time tomorrow at the show. I was going to get on stage and play a song with Condemned Existence, but my Dr. appts and psychical therapy didn't allow me enough time to learn the song.
It would have been nice to get on stage and get myself out there for ppl to see me play.

I've jumped on the douche-usage bandwagon! Well, I don't actually use douches (though they make a lovely vinaigrette if you pour some olive oil and oregano into the bottle ), but I use the word more than I did in junior high, which was a lot.
It's replaced the words, "punk," "moron," and "anybody who comes anywhere near me in traffic." I even use it as a verb, meaning, "... to tell me you're going to be somewhere, or do something, then not do that." That's known as, "douching out," or ,"taking a douche."

Incidentally, I figured out who we're talking about, by his writing style. He's actually an okay guy. A little roughed-up from crap he's been going through, and real high-strung, but I don't think he's a bad person. I feel bad that I jumped in before I knew the whole story, and I've learned from it... for now. I'm sure I'll do something stupid before the end of the day. ------>JMS
