A Nice Pair

Nope, not a Floyd album. I just took pics of these for eBay and thought that some vintage mic aficionados would like a gander. This is an sequential serial number pair of 1979 Neumann KM84 mics in pristine condition:

I decided not to sell this pair--they're just too nice. I have another pair that aren't consecutive and I'm going to sell them individually, prolly Sunday. One of those is S/N 41728 and is consecutive to the ones pictured, but it has a small dent. I'd like to take some of the proceeds and try to get one of those Neumann cherry stereo pair boxes and some original clips to complete the set. I have the operation manual which you don't find very often.

That's why I decided to keep the sequential pair that is pictured--they are too nice to sell. I don't need 4 of these, so I'm selling one with a small dent and a 4th one that was made in 1984. As for Pink Floyd, A Nice Pair was an album which was a reissue of their 1st 2 albums, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and A Saucerful of Secrets:

It didn't take very long to sell the other mics. I ordered a new Neumann cherry box with clips & screens for the ones pictured above this morning. I doubt I'll come across the original vintage ones, but ya never know.

They want $130 for a new, empy foam-lined Neumann wood box -- no clips or windscreens included. Ya know, these guys make great microphones, but I'm not paying that much for a frikkin wooden box just because they stamped a little Neumann logo in the corner. For that much, there should be a big ole metal badge on it.

I got out this old (pre-1895) treadle sewing machine accessory box and cut some foam--room for clips on the right. If I can find some original mic clips, I'll get my former employer to lasercut some good foam to size. Anybody have a nice metal Neumann badge?

I cant justify the price because I havent properly even treated the room yet.

No. Not even the KM184 (at 3/4 the price). They capture openness and ambience that even Neumann couldn't improve on.
