I must say it does certainly look pleasing to the eye....

I painted a Les Paul Copy a few years ago; but I did not properly wet sand the body so when the paint dried I had wood "fuzzies" dried into the paint job.... I did a basecoat of half the body in white and half black... I then took a thick fabric net (think hammock) and laid it on the body and sprayed it with metallic red... it was pretty cool for a first project I guess... but would have been better had I actually sanded it right

I really like the Zakk V myself;

Thanks Chad,
Yeah I've been there many times before. Gotta keep with it and put alot of time into them.
I always wanted to use a technique similar to what you described. I wanted to paint a guitar with a solid color, let's say Black. Then wrap it with Fish net stockings, and then paint it Copper or some other color, remove the fish net leaving the outline in black where it was.

That was my idea to create a Snakeskin finish on a guitar. But I don't have an airbrush, so that went to waste real quick.
I'm pretty sure that's how Jackson does their Snakeskin finishes.

Geetarz had some nice ones wrapped in real Snakeskin, those things looked awesome, but not sure how much it would affect the tone.

I didnt use an airbrush, just aerosol cans

had I sanded the paint job, I think it would have been cool

this net was at thick as say clothesline and I would say the openings were no larger than 1.5 x .75 inches at their widest spot...

it was actually a net for kids to keep their stuffed animals in (hanging on a wall) and I really liked the spacing and thickness of the net itself

I remember sanding the body b4 I painted it thinking I hope I just didnt fuck this guitar up... it was a cherry sunburst when I started hacking at it

Yeah I was just saying for the fine detail of the Snakeskin finish, I would need an airbrush for shading and blending the colors in.

There's not much on here as far as stuff like that. And I thought that some people might find it interesting to see. I am by no means a pro at building guitars and did not want to come off that way, it's just something that I'm into. I don't drink or go out on my time off of work, so this is my hobby. It keeps me sane and out of trouble.

It has gotten alot of views so I take that as a compliment, because the 'Tech Sector' doesn't have as much traffic as some of the other posts.
The technical side of playing is just as interesting as anything else in my opinion.

I'd really like to see more of this type of thing, if anyone has anything to share, please do.

Joe, you should bring that guitar to practice tonight, if its able to travel.

I love working on instruments also, but I don't have the time I used to have. Painting takes so much time. I repainted a headless steinberger copy a few years ago, as well as re-did all the electronics. I didn't play it much so I sold it. I still kind of regret it, because I had so much time into the painting.

I've had a couple coats of paint on some no-name guitar my friend gave me because it was all busted up and didn't work, for a couple years. One of these days I'll get around to finishing it. I've kind of been jonesing for a guitar so maybe I'll do that soon.

I'm almost done with a fretless jazz bass/musicman bass hybrid. Its all ready to go, except I went with active electronics, and I can't fit the circuit and 9 volt battery in the existing routing.

My latest crazy idea is to make a bass copy of a stratocaster. I don't know how well it would sound, but I think it would look kickass.

I finally finished it today. While I'm relieved to be done with it, I really enjoyed researching, finding parts, and building it. I'm going to play it for a few weeks, and then move on to the next one.
I'd like to thank everyone that viewed this, and especially thank those for all the kind words.

Awesome job Joe! Thanks for sharing the "build process" with us, pretty cool. Your next project should be the George Lynch carved skull & bones. But make this one a right handed model so I can buy it when you're done!

Mitch, thanks. That is awesome what you did to that picture. I'm getting an idea, but I need you to work your magic on these photos for me, and reverse them.

Yeah the '81 is only in there temporarily, until I find a decent deal on a Seymour. I might just sell the '81. I also bought a Bill Lawrence XL500 like Dime's original pickup. I already have an extra XL, don't know why I bought another. Well IMO as far as Passive guitar pickups, nothing comes close to a Lawrence. I've tried alot of pickups, and these are at the top.

I also need to screw that damn quarter onto the body, I almost hate to do that.

Coffin feeder, thanks for the compliments brother! anytime you want to get a hold of me, either call, or send me a pm, or an email.
I can't believe that it was a year since I completed this guitar, talk about digging into the past. I had alot of fun building this one, and it was one of my favorites for sure. We can definitely do a guitar in this style, just Lemmy know.
