I have a question wrote:panzer, im surprised you didnt address the nazi thing...you seem like youre all about that
Adress it how? The statement was made that you CANNOT compare smoking in bars to burning Jews.......

I disagree completely... You can't get the stench out of your clothes for weeks after either !!!! hehe......

Why does everyone think I'm a Nazi? I'm just into history, specifically military history.. Civil War, WWII etc etc...

Actually I'm a registered Democrat.. Far from National Socialisms' Ideaology... Well depending on who you ask.... hehe....

Not a problem, I think you are one of the most laid back guys on here. I can't recall one single time that you have intentionally singled anyone out. But yeah you can be sarcastic sometimes, but I like it!

Some guys take things too personal on here sometimes, and despite using emoticons, or smileys, it's hard to differenciate between joking and being serious.

That's just great. Now you bastards fired Hawk up about smoking and now he's gonna kick Harry and I out of the band. Are you happy now!!!
Hawk has some good points as well as everyone else. I like a dumb ass chose to smoke. Why? Because I'm a nicotine addict. I have quit for as many as 9 years and started up again. Recently for five months and started up again. Yeah I'm a dumb ass, but Hawk doesn't treat me or Harry any different than a none smoker. I know how he feel about the smoke in the face bit. $ .02 8)

Surely you don't think names ending in "ier" are German do you? Do a little research if so you'll find names ending in "ier" not German Tsk Tsk....

Should be the bar's decision to ban or not. I don't like the government stepping into owner's rights. I like the non-smoking thing becasue I'm a fat asthmatic, however I don't like big government!

smoking

Post by tornandfrayed »

smoking is bad for you, you should all quit. If someone wants to smoke and a bar owner wants smoke, oh well.

I have a feeling that a lot of these bar owners are "breathing" a collective sigh of relief simply because they can blame the government for something they were afraid or unwilling to do.

I think it is a plus to have most areas where people congregate be non smoking. Unless it is pot. I think that pot should be legal. The we could drink and get high and have a blast...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: The no-smoking in bars law is BS.

There is absolutely no rule or law on the books that says that a bar owner HAS to allow smoking in his bar. If Hawk opens a bar, for example, he has the right as the owner of said bar to make it a nonsmoking bar. So if I, a smoker, want to go in, I have to leave the cigs outside in the car, or step out every hour or so to have one.

We don't need a law to make bars nonsmoking. It's already there, in a roundabout way.

And bars are private property, so they can't be legislated for public protection, as lonewolf pointed out.

I still don't understand why they don't enforce what I feel is a logical first step....enforce the use of WORKING smoke eaters....encourage ventilation in any way possible. I feel it can really make a difference, and this would be a compromise to at least TRY.
While I too don't agree with government interference, this kind of enforcement would be acceptable. IMO.
I know that many bars don't even bother turning them on or have ancient ones that don't even work properly.

Good point Zappaswife...... Too bad bar owners weren't just considerate enough to justify the expense in the first place without big brother getting involved.....

You figure it's their lungs too!! hehe....

At first I thought you were trying to say that bars should hire tenders/wait staff that smoked in the first place... Then I reread it ;) I think this is one of the many reasons this law is on the books. Bar owners just don't care one bit about their patrons or their employees.

I agree with Panzer. Getting smoke out of my gear and clothes sucks.. When I buy gear for gigging, I write it off the day I get it. The smoke ruins its value instantly. Now I'll finally be able to take the gear I really want to certain gigs.

I feel bad for the smokers, a little..... Nah!! They don't feel bad about filling my lungs with smoke, so I'm not going to care one bit about fresh air making its way to their brains...

I'm just worried what some of these places are going to smell like with no fresh smoke to cover up the nastyness anymore....

Joe, Ive had the police at my home many times (between Shawn's band and - long ago - my bands). Yep, too loud. Yep calling the police was the right thing to do.

As far as I know Joe...loud music will not eventually kill you. Smoke does have the ability to KILL. It IS poison !

I'm happy you finally agree that there are some good laws.

Re-thinking this. The ban is not really imposed on the bars. The ban is imposed on the smokers. Non smokers now have the FREEDOM to eat and drink in a place open to the public and not have to deal with a smoker stinking up the air.

Poison from car exhaust ? Out law cars ? That was a silly comparison wasn't it ? Banning smokers from smoking in places open to the public will not bring our country to a halt. Need I say more ?

But I will  . I think we should work on improving emissions. Oh yeah, we already started that. Cool.

I'm looking forward to having the FREEDOM to breathe in PA !

Question ? Will I need a body guard at the Reeseman family benefit ? I have a feeling everyone is going to take a shot at blowing smoke in my face.

Best point of this whole thread. The self righteous nonsmokers, led by Hawk who is apparently leading the charge to throw a big effing parade or something here in honor of this ridiculous law, are the first to tilt back an alcoholoic beverage in these wonderful, smoke-free bars.

Beer=poison. Liquor=poison.

Both will kill you, probably quicker than cigarette smoke.

Hawk, I think this is by far the most obnoxious and condescending line of posts you've ever made ... and that's saying a lot. Maybe sometime you might want to actually wait for someone to respond to your points of view before rebutting. We get it. You're smarter than everyone else.

Oh, and while we're at it, EFF OBAMA.
