How big of a douche can you be?

Post by DirtySanchez »

This is by far the funniest/saddest thing I've ever experienced regarding someones ego.

I just had a band booked for an upcoming show and they bailed on us.
Guess why? I'll tell you why. Because when we posted their name I put "BAND X" on the flyer and The egotistical frontman got so pissed because he wanted his name on there. "Egotistical Douche and BAND X".

WTF??? I just put what I was told to on the flyer. C'mon lighten the fuck up already. I thought that was just shit you saw on the movies (the temptations comes to mind). Oh well, the rest of "HIS BAND" needs to tell this dude to take a long walk off a short plank. HAHA!!!

Has anyone ever played with some someone like this?

Tell me your stories.

PS. It was not Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. LOL

In all fairness, you promised you'd put my name on there separate from the band.

it was about 8 years ago, i was doing sound for a benifit show in blairsviille. i can't remember the name of the band but their drummer refused to go on stage because he had to put his kit next to the following bands kit. the band that was supposed to be after these guys couldn't make it so the band that was before them said they would play another set. the band with the asshole drummer would not move their slot. they threw a fit. so we left the drummers kit from the "cool" band on stage. in the end the "asshole" band didn't play, and the cool band ended up doing 3 sets. it all worked out in the end. i even suggested maybe using the other guys kit instead of setting up 2 but the drummer thowing a fit would not hear of that. i can see disagreeing but this guy was pissed. yelling and screaming. i mean come on it was for charity. suck it up and do you set. nobody really cared.

Exactly Brian, first of all, it is not that big of a deal, and really it's not like they are rock stars or under contract to have their 'name' clearly written on the flyer. I guess that shows what kind on mindset they are in, and it's better to find shit out like that now, than to run into further problems down the road huh?
Question:
was this for the benefit show?
And if so, really it's not a bout the bands, it's about the beneficiary, correct?

Oh well, this just proves that 'douchery' exists elsewhere, not just metal. :D

None of the bands I play with really even care if people know what their name is. Thats why they all have their band names written in scribbles.

Total Chaos (or is it Kaos?) is a punk band actually, so a name change is in order anyway. Band X maybe? Has a ring to it for sure.

Well, the word, "douche," which has oddly become part of my everyday lexicon despite never actually referring to feminine hygiene products, drew me in...

I've obviously dealt with full-of-themselves headliners as an opening act, but in nearly 25 years of career, I cannot recall an instance where an opening band started calling such shots when my project was headlining. Actually, I think I'd probably run with it... I'd introduce the group as the Douche Doucheman Band and ignore what the band's real moniker is. I'd set them up as the greatest effing thing since the simultaneous orgasm, and then point and laugh when they're stepping on their nadsacks. (And believe you me, douchery is as douchery does, and they WILL blow it. Nothing like being overinflated to psyche your psyche.)
I take comfort in one near-absolute fact of the music business: Guys like Douche Doucheman never last. Even attempting to call shots as an opener shows he is a naive beginner. He'll be really super frustrated for awhile, and then when he sees nobody takes him seriously, he'll "concentrate on his day job."
It's the wisdom of the ages, fellers. Shut the f**k up and pay your dues. Your time will come, and it will rule.------>JMS

Awesome idea Johnny! that would be so cool to see.
Maybe next time? That should be in the repertoire of the next person that has to deal with said situation.

I often deal with professional musicians in my business. Shawn deals with them in his business. We agree on the same thing. The big stars usually are easy to deal with. It's the "wannabes" who are a pain .

Actually the "wannabes" really have the "I'm-a-big-star-you-just-don't-know-it-so-I-will-act-like-an-asshole-and-you-will-think-I-am-a-star" syndrome.

Shouldn't BDR be collecting royalties off the use of the word "douche" in this thread?

I never gave the name of the band or the dude with the ego.
Actually I don't even know the name of the guy who needs his name in the spotlight. I just know the name of his backing band. To avoid embarrassing anyone in his band I won't disclose their name.

I think things like this have a tendency to get blown out of proportion.. It's easy to go along with the egotistical lead singer stereotype. I would hope the name thing would not be the guys only reason for not doing the show.
