The overdrive channel has more preamp gain than the clean channel, so it is normal to have noise on one and not the other. I doubt if there is anything wrong with your amplifier.

Well, that's good to know....a guy told me over the weekend that there should be no 'noise' coming through the amp on either channel, and that seemed unlikely to me....because even on my old amp, you can hear some noise through the amp on overdrive.

So basically, if buying an NS-2 or Hum Eliminator will solve my problem, I think it's worth a shot.

Thanks for all the help, as usual, guys!
I hear what you're saying for sure,I used to do the effect thing and they do sound sweet for certain tunes, and if you're playing covers they may almost be a "must have",but I do 99.9% originals and decided to run dry. It's all a matter of personal taste in the long run. :) As for the Boss NS-2,I use one and it works great, some guys run them in the loop but I run mine between the guitar and the amp. Just give both ways a try and go with what works best for you. :D

Ya, absolutely. Some amps just do have a hiss/hum/something whenever
the gain channel is kicked in. One of the gates may alleviate, may not, may
depend on hom much you're used to. Ex: The gain side of my Tubeworks
is REALLY noisy. It's just one of their traits. When I use it, I roll off the volume
ped when I switch to it just because I know it's going to be there.

It's kind'a one of those things that when it "Dawns" on you, it's hard to
ignore.

A little noise on an OD channel is normal. How much noise can also depend on your guitar pickups and even the cables.

What kind of pickups do you have?

That shouldn't be a problem then.

When it comes to regular amp rigs, I kind of like Ted Nugent's philosophy:

“There is nothing between the guitar and the amp to fuck up the signal.”
