What do you want out of your music career?

Post by Colton »

Realistically: I'd like to jam with as many people as possible. Don't really care for the fame/fortune part of it myself, its just way too much fun for me. I love jammin with new people cause I always learn something...

Dreaming: I'd like to jam with like, warren haynes, clapton, maybe resurrect SRV, people like that. Just sit down for a night and trade licks, ect.

So how about you? Money? Babes? What is it?
Laugh if you want to, really is kinda funny, 'cause the world is a car and you're the crash test dummy.

All I would want is to make a living playing. I don't want the fame ect. Because its short lived, and too much pressure to top what you just did. Kids are hard on the music today. You might be on top today, but you won't be tomm. The stress would be too much to stay there.
I'd be happy to have a finished CD of originals to sell and make the paycheck I do now at work..That's a personal goal and not dreaming too big...LOL. If I could play 3 nights a week and X-box 360 the rest...NICE!.....

Oh and chicks too!!...

I've had an awesome career and I feel very blessed to have been able to do what I've done so far, wouldn't change a thing. But, if it were possible, I would have loved to have been a member of a nationally well known band that had a string of hits. Then, every year, I'd hit the 2nd tier show circuit for around $6000 per gig and fly around the country playing from May until October 4 nights a week. That would be about $90,000 per year with 6 months off. I could handle that! That's what alot of these oldies bands do that come to DelGross's park. I spoke with the guys from the Grass Roots and that's about what they do. That would be awesome. Dang....I better start writing before it's too late! :P

I've never thought about that question....

What do I want out of my music career?; "nothing".

Free booze, drugs, and the occasional flash of some nice firm bewbies.

Oh, and the satisfaction that is seeing people finger pointing and singing MY lyrics at the top of their lungs!!! That's the most important.

I wouldn't turn down what trucula said either.

Yeah, same here. I already get to play with practically any band I want, practically any time. People applaud. Really good musicians say nice stuff about me, and I play in a band with guys that are really good. I worked hard, and it's paying off.

I guess if I had to achieve something with it all, I'd hope that I turned some people on to the kinds of music I like, entertained them, and left behind something that mattered to someone. When I'm gone, I hope somebody thinks I was good.-------->JMS

I got what I wanted...respect from my fellow musicians. (At least I think I did.) I wanted to earn the respect and trust of other cats in the area so when they would need someone to fill in or join a band, I would be the first name that popped in to their heads. I think I earned that, but I'm still working on it also.

This summer is my 40th year of playing in bars and with arthisis in my hands, I ain't really thinking about the big time.

What I'd want to do for my playing career is to stop playing out and do a "60's" band show like either "Folk Rock or Psychodellic band in my basement, but for the forseeable furture, I NEED THE PLAYING OUT BUCKS!

I pretty much have gotten everything I ever wanted out of my quasi-music career. I jammed with many bands, people, and have met some great folks along the way. I guess the question for me at this point in my career, is what would i do differently? Well alot of things loking back in hindsight, but all in all it was a good trip.
Am I rich? No, but if you measure wealth by experiences, then I'm the richest guy in the world no doubt! :D :D

I like to have fun, play good music and hang with friends. I can't lie theres always that dream of making it "big", but to me it wouldn't be as big as Nickelback or something along those lines. Just as far as alot of the newer underground metal/hardcore bands make it, play clubs every night, make enough to live, and do what I love for a living. I hate it when bands talk only about making it, I mean of course I wanna make it, but shouldn't fun be the first and foremost important thing?? I mean if it wasn;t fun then why do it?? I remember the last band I was in the one member saying and I quote "Well if he's not in it to make it then whats the point even?" ... Hmm maybe people have fun too playing shows in front of their friends only on the weekends

Thats it for me.. well said... It would be nice to make a living, but this being my 14th year.. it hasn't happend yet, i pretty much give up hope. haha...

Also what TunaRockGuy said.. The more people you jam with, the more you learn.

Post by Jared Michaels »

I would like to be able to make my living at rockin out 5-6 nights a week, instead of having to work a job all week. That would be a dream come true. I know it's a long shot. But in the back of my mind, I guess that I still have hopes of hitting the big time. 8)

Rock on!!!

Dude,
When there's talent such as you exhibit, it's always a pleasure to work and soar with you ! I think my little brother would agree!

I'm suprised this topic isn't sull of responses.

I'm in it for a good time. If it were to be more I always said I'd wanna be a one hit wonder............. That's right, make a million dollars on one song and then go back to playing bars. I don't think i could be a big rock star on the road trying to impress and please everyone, that's not me.I just wanna make a quik million and live the simple life.Unfortunatly I think the one hit wonder days are gone.

Actually right now work and life in general has taken priority and we ( my wife and I ) haven't been doing much. So I'd like to see life slow down to where we can get back out and play.

i'd just like to play for a living. if i could make 300-400 bucks a week so i didn't have to keep a day job, i'd have acheived my goals as a musician.

as for being a rich and famous rockstar... yea... why not? but in all honesty will that happen? doubtful. so why get one's hopes up?
