The Beast and the Harlot by Avenged Sevenfold!!

I have to set this one up first. While I was in the 10th Mountain Division Band out of Ft. Drum, NY, we deployed to Afghanistan. Yep, the band. We did a bunch of security stuff, but I managed to get my rock band out to play for the troops as much as possible. We were trying to pick out new songs to learn and my bass player played the intro and 1st verse of Avenged Sevenfold's Beast and Harlot. I loved the sound of it and said, "Hell yeah! Let's learn it!"

He gave me a copy of it and as I listened to the rest of the song, the regret started to sink in. Talk about biting off more than you can chew! :) But I was determined not to go running back with my tail between my legs! There's a 4 bard drum break near the middle that kicked my ass! I had to use a program to slow it down just to figure it out. Then I practiced JUST THAT PART for 4 hours a day, for 5 days! I finally got it, but I think I pulled a few muscles! Some of these new drummers are insanely FAST!

hardest song

Post by lynch1 »

hmm, where do I start. There are songs I had a hard time learning, put them away for awhile, came back to them and played them like it was nothing, saying to myself "what the hell was so hard about this 3 months ago?", ie Bon Jovi--Wanted Dead or Alive intro, Sweet Child o' Mine intro.
Songs I will never get---Any Satriani, Yngwie, Testament, Disturbed (very syncopated to me, but cool), anything song with cookie monster vocals because I hate it and won't listen to those bands so I can learn them. Wow, plenty others I'm sure I'll think of later.
