I also heard the same thing, so yeah if yins guys want that sound, go for an original 2203, not the signature head.

I personally think it's a money scam like all of the other 'artist' endorsements.

Kind of funny considering that I always thought that Slayer's guitar tone sucked (I won't even get into Tom Araya's bass tone, though his sig bass is really cool). The riff right before the clean guitar parts in Divine Intervention sounds like it was recorded on a 20 watt solid-state practice amp. I can overlook that on a first album when a band doesn't always have the capital to have state of the art equipment, but they should have had a sizable recording budget by that album. There's no excuse for it.

I agree with Joe; I don't really get into these signature amps, especially considering that a lot of these guys' backline is just smoke and mirrors. It's not uncommon for the real amp to be miced up backstage. Other than the original 5150, has there ever really been a highly successful signature amp?

Eric played through a Hughes & Kettner Alex Lifeson signature ampat a store, and it was pretty awesome. pretty expensive though

I on the other hand LOVE Slayer's tone!! It is nothin' but 80's Marshall crunch. They have one of the best mid sound ever in the history of metal.
Sure, "Haunting the Chapel" and "Show No Mercy" weren't the greatest sounding albums, I didn't really care for "Reign in Blood" either.
"South of Heaven" was the sound that got me. I've been trying to dial in that sound for a while now, and I've gotten fairly close, but that's about all you can do, right?

The 2203 was used by alot of players including Zakk, Robbin Crosby, Lynch at one point etc... but of course they were all modded to their personal tastes.

I just don't get into products that have a 'name' on them. Like it is purposely marketed to make $$, cause essentially it is.
However, I would love to try the Marshall 1959RR Randy Rhoads head.

Just like everything in life, to each their own. If you can get a sound you like, then go for it man, (or woman).
